Happy Birthday littleUA
Twenty two years ago Decembr 8th, I gave birth to a wonderful baby girl. That baby girl has now turned into a wonderful young lady that I am bursting with pride over.

I lost my relationship with my daughter when I married my now, second ex-husband. She didn't like him, for reasons unknown to me until recently. When I told her that I was divorcing him in 2004, I know that she thought that I wouldn't go through with it (as did most of my family. Long story there, that I won't go into at this time). This occurred just before she graduated high school. But that didn't stop her from reaching out to me. She paid for my airline ticket, as well as my hotel room so that I could be there when she received her diploma. However, mother nature decided to play havoc that day (graduation was being held outside) and her ceremony was deluged with rain. They rushed through giving out the diplomas and everyone was soaked by the time we got inside. But, I was as happy as a clam that she had made the effort to have me there as part of her day.

Since then, we have become closer than I ever expected to be. We talk on the phone daily, and she has been here in Texas three times since I moved here in March of 2006. Even if there is nothing new to talk about, she calls just to say hello.

Yesterday afternoon when she called about the bird/cat caper, I about fell out of bed with laughter. She told me that her alarm had gone off and she thought it was her phone. That's when she almost picked up the dead bird and put it to her ear. I just about died in tears it was so funny. Today, she called, just to ask if I would be her personal alarm clock and call her at 1 to make sure that she gets up in time to go to one of her 2 jobs. Of course, she knew that I would say yes.

I know that she worries about me being here in TX and so far away from the rest of my family. And she keeps telling my boyfriend that if he ever does anything to hurt her momma she will be here in a heartbeat to kick his butt (but I know that she approves of and adores Randy .. they refer to each other as step-father and step-daughter although we aren't married). Just another thing that endures me to this wonderful young lady.

So baby girl, your momma is sending you a very special wish this year (I know it will be hard with Chad being gone) that your day be filled with much happiness and that you have a wonderful birthday.

I love you Brianne, with all my heart and soul
Mom

I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane.

RE: Happy Birthday littleUA
Before I post to this... I want you all to know that this is my momma's revenge for making her cry over my Myspace page... Tongue

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I feel so greatful to know that even with Chad half a world away, I am not forgotten.

My mom is one of the sweetest women I know. Although my dad and I go around sometimes about how "I'm just like my mother", I'm proud to share many traits with her. She's right about our relationship, and in a lot of ways I can hardly call her my mother. She was gone for my teenage years, and when we finally reconnected I was nearly an adult. Since then we have acted as angels and devils on one another's shoulders. I think we gripe to each other about our men more than we do with friends in our own age groups, and I share more with her than anyone else.

I believed a lot of bad things about her when I was younger, due mostly in part to my parent's divorce and being raised by Dad. I swore I would never be anything like her - what a sad woman I would be today if I hadn't inherited her love of life, her love of family, and the compassion that I know you have all seen in her. She is the one person who I know won't abandon me, the one who will always and forever be there in my times of need. When I got kicked out of the bar last week and called her at two in the morning, she was there, without a word of anger or crankiness. She offers to send me money while her own medical bills go unpaid. She makes my sweetheart bread and shops for him while her leg throbs and aches. My father has abandoned me in the past, and although my mom left when I was young, I don't believe it was abandonment. It was what she needed in her life, what she needed to do to discover who was beneath the married woman my father created and destroyed. Since my senior year of high school, my mother has not faltered or failed me once, and one day I will do the same for her.

I love you Mom. You raised me right while we were together, and you are still teaching me today. Thank you.

God Bless You All

RE: Happy Birthday littleUA
Brianne, I understand your relationship with your mom. It's a lot like me and my mom. Life didn't work out to where she could be a good mom to me when I was younger and by the time she wanted to try I was fourteen and felt that she waited too long. I moved out and didn't have much of a relationship with her til I was eighteen. By then I had grown up some and realized that what she went through didn't have anything to do with me and whether she was right or wrong didn't matter, what was in the past was in the past. She never meant to hurt me. I was innocent and she had a lot of problems to work through. My dad was killed when I was seven and mom had remarried three times by the time I was twelve. She also started drinking after my dads death and pretty much drank every day until I was twelve.

Anyway, the point to my story is to say that like you, when I was eighteen I found not only the mom I had been missing, but a friend I can count on even though we are a thousand miles apart. I have also realized that I have learned not only from the few things my mom did right, but all of the things she did wrong.

I hope your day was special even though Chad and your mom are far away. You know you were the most important person on their mind today!

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
