I'm hoping someone out there can help me out. I got hurt on the job. I was released by the doctor to do the EMS portion of my job yet have not been cleared to do the FIRE portion as of yet.
I went to the Chief, told him that I was released for EMS. I got back onto my crew, and then was told (about 2 weeks later) by the chief that they have decided that I can not respond to ANY call until I'm completely cleared by the doctor. Is this lawful?? Anyone with any assistance would be greatly appreciated. |

RE: Wisconsin Firefighter Injury
No, not full time: Paid on call. My injury is a severe ankle sprain. Healing but still not 100%.
I am being paid via workman's comp; I was just curious if they can allow me back and then change their mind(s). Also, curious if they can let me go because of it?? I will check out the linkage...thanks for the info. |

RE: Wisconsin Firefighter Injury
Hi there,
I could be that Chief was advised or learned later that legally, they can't let you work till you are 100%. (to Cover their own butts) Welcome to the forum FF! Lilly
Injured worker, & tired of it all! I'm too old for games!! A careless word may kindle strife, a cruel word may wreck a life, a timely word may level stress, and a loving word may heal and bless! |

RE: Wisconsin Firefighter Injury
I'm glad to find brothers on the forum. I was burnt 9% (full r arm, r side of face, interior of l arm) partial and full thickness, and was allowed to return to the ems bus after about 2 months off but not the truck due to heat sensitivity (as ordered by the Burn Center). This may be an internal reg, check your SOP or a state difference. I'm in the deep south. The knee injury came later and have not been released by the doc to even return to light duty. Take care guys and keep the faith.

RE: Wisconsin Firefighter Injury
Legally an employer rather then an employee is allowed to define the job requirements.
