Tuffy, thanks for updating everyone. It has been a trying couple of weeks. The surgery went fine, all expect for I did need added measures in the Total Knee replacement. Doctor's and Surgeon's were great. The Hospital I was in, wasn't much to say it was a good or fair place to be. The Staff of Nurses stunk, and could care less about anyone in the place. In fact, all they found time for, was to complain about Management to the Patients needing proper health care. My wife wanted to go off on them big time, but I begged her to wait, till I'm out of there. Just this Sat, she called the head people at the hospital, and told them all that was going on. She had worked in the hospital setting before, so she knows what people should be doing. About 2 hours latter, the hospital called back, and then talked to me. I told them things that happened, and they seemed shocked to say the least. I even told them of the one night, a nurse injected the flushing solution in to my IV port, then the Medication should of been given, then followed by another flush. I only was given the first flush, and she walked out of my room with the other two needles. I had then went 1 1/2 days with no pain medication. Didn't matter how many times I pushed the button, I was told they be right there, yet never came. Bed was never changed unless my wife did it. On Thanksgiving day, I women then asked if I would like the bed changed? I said well, I'm going home, and where have you been for four days? She just walked away. I was in the Surgery Recover room for four hours. My wife got up, and said she must see me. She never let them know she use to work in a hospital, but when she came in, she asked why I was in recovery so long? the nurse told her Pain Management. They both walked over by my, and the nurse asked how my pain was? I told her it was so high, there wasn't even a scale for it. That is when she handed me the button for the pump, and said push the button every six minutes. My wife turned to her and said, he can push that button till next week, but he won't obtain any relief, for my IV had been blown for some time, and it looked like my arm had a mellon in it. Well, a doctor heard this going on, removed the IV, placed another one in my other arm, gave me a shot, and reinserted the pump to it. he then went off on them nurses. Now once in my room, my knee was to be placed in a machine, I didn't know this, till wed, when the surgeon asked where it was. Staff nurse got ripped apart by surgeon, but yet the machine didn't come till 8:30PM at night. I heard the surgeon say, 2 hours on, 2 hours off. Needless to say, the next shift nurse removes the machine from the bed, and placed it on the floor. I told her what the surgeon stated, and she said no, your not to use it again till 10:30PM the next night. I told her, I will be going home in the morning, so that couldn't be true. The PT women was great, showed me what to do, how to do it, and what to do at home, that has helped me alot. Once home, got on my Medications in the proper time frames, I started to feel much better. But I had been placed 4 days behind proper scheduling for PT and healing. But I'm now getting there. Can walk stairs, and all. I will start PT next week, and can't wait. I do see a good out come soon, for the knee is showing signs of better movement and ROM.
I thank you all for being in my corner. One could never ask for more. |

RE: Update on Bad Boy
Oh Bad Boy...I wish Tuffy and I had been your nurse....you would have been treated as a King.... that is just plain awlful. What is happening to the newer nurses is beyond me. I have seen a few situations like this... I am surprised you did not tell them to get a new job and come back when someone cares... I am so sorry that you experienced that poor of a job... nursing's root is caring... I didn't see any caring in your treatment at all...only agravation... a knee operation results in the worst pain ever... didn't want to say that before you had it, but I know it causes lots of pain.... you should have recieved the best pain management possible... I am so sorry .... that was not right.... Red

RE: Update on Bad Boy
Bad Boy, I am so sorry you had such an awful experience. It sounds like the little hospital in the town I grew up in in WV. I had never had a good experience in that hospital, but the last time I was there, 14 years ago, I swore I wouldn't take my dog to it. Since I have lived in Kansas, I have been in three different hospitals and I finally found out that there are some truly amazing, kind, and caring nurses. All three hospitals were great! You should have had my Kansas nurses, not the ones you had.
I hope you heal well and fast in spite of the original care you received. |
