Update on Chad
My daughter Brianne has finally gotten to spend some time talking with Chad. He is now at Bagram air base in Afghanistan. It is hard for them to touch base, as he gets off work at 8 am in the morning, which is the middle of the night in MI where my daughter lives.

We finally got a snail mail addy for him. If you send letters or cards, make sure that you address the envelope EXACTLY as follows, or they will be returned.

Chad D. Wolcott
455 EMXG/EAMXS A-10
APO AE 09354

Have a great day y'all and may it be as pain free as possible.

RE: Update on Chad
Beth,
Chad is my daughter Brianne's boyfriend. He was sent to Iraq, and then transferred to Afghanistan the beginning of this month. He is in the Air National Guard. The base at Bagram has had 4 attacks on it in the past month. SO we are very worried about his safety.

I should add, that if you do send a letter or card, that above your return address, you need to put "Friend of Bri's Mom" so that he knows it is from someone that has been given access to his addy, and not just some weirdo ~LOL~.

Here is the addy for the original post that I started so that you can be up to date

RE: Update on Chad
Babe,

I really don't have a clue, although from what I heard at the post office yesterday (lady in front of me was mailing 2 manilla envelopes to an APO) it is 2 to 5 days, depending upon how long they wait for the mail to accumulate before bagging it up for transport to the location oversees.

Hopefully they will do it quite often, as there are only 3 phones on the base for over 7500 men and women to use to call loved ones back home. So calls will be few and far between for my daughter and Chad. There will probably be more letters and computer chat (he took his laptop) between them than anything. Although she has to get up at 2 am to talk to him on the computer. That is, till she starts her new job as security at another base. Then she will be working midnight to 8 a.m. and Chad may have to get out of bed to talk to her.

RE: Update on Chad
Angel,

Can you tell us what kinds of things he enjoys and would like to hear about? I don't do a lot anymore and of course I want to be upbeat. I also don't want to make him anymore homesick than I'm sure he already is. Can you please help this dimwit out, LOL???

Also I was wondering if we might get a care package or something together for him for Christmas, maybe you could tell us what he needs and some of us might be able to contribute and help with the shipping charges? I don't know how all that works...help me, help me, LOL

RE: Update on Chad
I still would like to send cards and letters, but was just thinking maybe we could get some things together and also help with the shipping charges as I am sure they are quite high and I don't want to put any one person to that expense in the situation we are all in.

I won't be home til sometime tomorrow but I'll be back Smile

RE: Update on Chad
Sorry that I wasn't able to answer you before now. We had to make our annual Thanksgiving trip north of Okalahoma City to pick up Randy's (my boyfriend) daughter for the holiday. She is a freshman at the University of Kansas. What should have been a 6 hour trip, turned into 8 thanks to traffic. At one point, it took us a full hour to travel 8 miles. We didn't get home till 9 pm and by then, I was totally wiped as I did all the driving. Although my Dr didn't want me driving till after the 28th. Thank goodness for cruise control.

I really don't know what Chad is into ~LOL~ or his likes. He is a typical 26 year old male. And there are certain restrictions as to what can and can't be sent over to the Iraq / Afghanistan theater. He has to stay in uniform 24 /7, even when he is sleeping in case of an attack. So maybe just some goodies that won't perish on the trip over (gum and breath mints are always good ~LOL~) and toiletries are also good.

I am going to get him a first aid kit set up, as he is having a lot of trouble with severly dry skin. I am going to send things such as gold bond lotion, gauze wrap and tape, white cotton socks, vicks and a few other goodies. But yes, if you want to send something here, I would be more than happy to enclose it in a box for him.

I think what is going to mean the most to him, is just knowing that there are so many people unknown to him (until he starts getting your cards and letters) that care and are keeping him in their prayers. His Thanksgiving was actually yesterday and because he was on duty, he missed out on the turkey day dinner and USO show afterwards. Instead he got to eat a veggie burger MRE. YUCKERS !!! I think I would starve first.

If you want to send something to enclose in a care package, let me know, and I will pm you my home address. Even if we can't get it there by Christmas, it is the thought that counts.

For those of you who were thinking about cards and letters addressed to "Any Servicemember" they are no longer accepted per this page on the USPS website

"A1. Mail addressed to 'Any Servicemember' or similar wording such as 'Any Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine', 'Military Mail', etc., is prohibited. Mail must be addressed to an individual or job title, such as 'Commander', 'Commanding Officer', etc.

Have a goodun' y'all and stay as pain free as possible
