RE: Worried
BadBoy
My lawyer has already planned on bringing the fact of the accident at our hearing. I would not have been in that area if it wasn't for my pain management doctor appointment, and this was the first appointment with him. Thanks for the advice. Lilly I had a total hysterectomy in 5/06, and my surgeon actually put the nicotine patch on me for the duration of my hospital stay. I know that you can't be refused a surgery due to smoking, but have to stop for awhile. I tried the patch on my own before, and only managed to stop for about 3 weeks out of 2 months of using it. The pill you referred to is one that I can't take, I think. I remember having a bad reaction to Wellbutrin and the doctor told me that it was also in the pill that helps quit smoking. This I think was Zyban. I'm going to discuss everything with my ortho doc, and let him know what the PM doc said, since they are both working together for my W/C injuries. I am going to ask for a referral for a neuro, just to make sure that everything gets done that should be done. I've waiting so long for my original injuries to be healed, that I don't want to make the new ones worse too by being delayed. Thank you for your kind words and concern. Love Vickie |

RE: Worried
Hey Vickie, I have been thinking about quitting smoking. If it weren't for being upset with my injury and w/c I think I would have already tried. When I do decide I am strong enough to deal with everything, I think I am going to go to my regular dr and ask him about Chantix. I have talked with several people who have quit with this med. Have you looked it up? That is of course if you are really interested in quitting.

RE: Worried
Okay i just want to mention the drug Chantix. I heard so much good stuff about people quitting with that drug that i asked my primary care for it. Now i am one who really really wants to quit bad. I have been smoking over a pack 1/2 for over 30 yrs. I desperatly wanted to quit bad. He gave me the script and i went to the pharmacy. I was told it was 160 or so for the month, and then need another month afterwards. I did not have the money for it at the time so i went home till i did. In the meantime my sister in law had two months worth that she paid for and gave them to me cause they did not work for her. I faithfully took the pill each day the way it was prescribed. I noticed the first day that i did not wake up in the am and run outside for a cig. I thought wow this may work.
Well, after 3 weeks taking the pill and still smoking with it, i noticed i was just popping pills for no reason. It didn't do a dang thing for me. I continue to smoke the same amount as i did before the pill. It is worth a try for everyone that truely wants to quit. I heard so much good about it, and was very disappointed it did not work for me. Like so many others, some pills work good for some people and some not so good. I wish you luck. I just wanted to say my part on Chantix. I am so glad i saved my money and did not pay for it myself. carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |

RE: Worried
I have seen the TV ads about Chantix, but my health ins. probably won't approve it, since they don't approve meds. to help with wieght loss and other non-essential drugs. I would love to quit, with other problems that I have, that would be one positive thing for me. I have tried many times, and will try again. I know that when I'm under so much stress, that is not a good time to attempt it. At least for me. I tend to stress even more. I too have been smoking over 30 years.
Thanks for the advice. Vickie |

RE: Worried
Hello, if the Work Comp Insurance doctor wants you to stop smoking, then get their IC to pay for the cure.

Heck, they aren't paying for the stuff thier supposed to be paying for now. LOL. I should tell the doctor if he wants me to try the new med Chantix, and try to quit, he can send it thru the pharmacy that I've been using for workers comp rx, and see if it goes thru.lol This program (WorkersCompRx.com)has helped me alot, because I was paying out of pocket for my meds., since the adjuster stopped approving anything in July. My doc only has to fax in the scripts and keep the originals in his office, and my meds get delivered to my house within a day or two. I wish that I had known about it before, I would have saved over $600.00. My lawyer sent me a phamphlet about it and I signed up last month. Have a good day Vickie |
