Cruelty to Cats................

RE: Cruelty to Cats................
I agree that people should either keep their animals for life or spay or neuter them. When we have puppies they go with a spay/neuter contract and with the understanding that if the owner changes their mind, we'll take the puppy back. We try to be careful about who gets one of our pups and we only have two litters a year (one a year starting next year).

I don't think people should just gleefully shoot animals, but I have had my husband put a dog down before. You will have to trust me that my husband suffered more from it than the dog did. The dog died instantly, but my husband cried for two days.

RE: Cruelty to Cats................
I have 3 female dogs and 1 female cat. All have been spayed and all have a home for life as any animal does that I ever get. People re bad about abandoning their pets here in the desert. They have to move for whatever reason and the pet deposit is to large on their next place so they take the animals and dump them out in the desert to die.

I believe the people should be shot, not the animals Smile

Of all the cats and dogs I have come across in my life, there have been very few I didn't genuinely like.

RE: Cruelty to Cats................
I don't know how many of you remember this tragedy from 10 years ago

http://www.sniksnak.com/news/fl-031097.html

But believe it or not I lived not far from there and it was major news and we all felt the kids that did it got off lightly for what they did.

Sounds like jayne takes care of the cats even though she don't like them.

I can tell you what the city does to them here when they catch them - they take them out to the city dump and drop them off. They don't go to the animal shelter in town as it is for dogs only. There they fend for themselves - some for the first time as they were caught in the traps for skunks. If it's a person's cat they then have to go to the dump and try to find their pet themselves.

That's why I don't mind leaving food outside for the alley cats in my area - if they are eating here they are not bothering others or getting in the trash bins. Therefore no one is calling the animal police on them.

Also in our neighborhood it's not unusual for someone to find a lost puppy or dog to walk around and try and find the owner since most times it has gotten out of it's yard.

that's the difference between living in a town and the country. When I was growing up we lived in the country and we had over 50 cats for the same reason jayne does. We constantly had signs up for free kittens when we had kittens and gave them away as they were easier to catch and tame than the older ones.
