RE: halloween night
Good Morning,

We live in a rural area and don't get trick or treaters. The 4 grandkids did come trick or treat and they got candy and each a $5 bill. They were more happy with the money than the candy....lol. After they left watched TV and I went to bed at my usual time 7pm..

Sounds like many of you had a good time.

Pooh,
I am so amazed at your turn out............wow. I bet you and Driller had a blast. Tell Driller that Da Mama says hello and give him a hug for me.

God Bless and Take care everyone. Love ya'll!

Cajun Hugsssssss,
MJC

RE: halloween night
please tell me about those spell bags ....sounds like I might just enjoy giving those out.......we go into town and give out candy at my Mom and Dads since we never get trick or treaters here....the weekend before halloween we set up a trick or treat area at a local camp ground and the local kids come for a safe car free trick or treat......

RE: halloween night
It sounds like you all had a great halloween. We didn't do anything special this year because all of our decorations are in Oregon, same for Christmas, so not sure what to do about that...however..halloween night, we had many, didn't count.. they would come in groups of 6-10 at a time to our door and then ring that bell... Sally our puppy really didn't like it, but the kids all got a handful of candy .... no tricks. Most of the kids were between the ages of 2 - 12 years old.. so they were so cute and adorable with their costumes. I didn't dress up this year so it was just boring for the kids when they came to the door...

Pooh..sounds like you and driller had a great time handing out all those spell bags. I thought when you were first talking about it, what a wonderful idea and may try it next year... however, next year, if our house sells and we are able to move to the Oregon we will be living where there is less than 1000 people... most likely will not have very many trick or treaters.... I am glad you had fun..love Red

RE: halloween night
Spell bags = Candy filled in bags

The trick is to print out some old sayings that deal with Halloween to put in the bags. If you can get some orange paper and print it out in black it works great. My son did it at school for me in Black background and orange print. Or even some Halloween themed paper may work, but remember that you will be cutting it.

I used the large bags that you can get at Wal-Mart - I think they come 20 in the pack - Jayne if you have a big lots or a walls near you - they sometimes have party bags as they are called (I know at walls for about 50 cents). The dollar store also has them but later after they get all their Halloween stuff out - they are clear with either a pumpkin or ghost on the front. (I bought a few of these for next year already)

Now the trick is to get the right ingredients for the kids and a lot will depend on how much you wish to spend on the candy.

I always get the snack size bars, then a great big bag of the kiddie mix candy and you can't forget extra tootie roll pops. Never enough in the kiddie mix bags in my book.

Then you put in your saying and fill the bag as full as you wish with the prior ingredients and the tooties pop being the last so that you can tie the bag around the stick. (make sure you put the kiddie mix treats on top of this to hold down some).

I try not to give out things like gum because it can get caught in a kids hair if they fall asleep at night - long story but the short of it is - I ended up with really short hair the day of pictures. Also with the smaller or snack size pieces the parents can give their children a smaller portion of chocolate or candy and control how much they eat at a time hopefully. (This works well with the smaller children but I am also known to have full size candy bars hidden in some bags as well - so that is when the kids really hit the jackpot Wink )

RE: halloween night
I didn't do anything for Halloween. I live just outside of town, so I never get trick or treaters. My daughters went into town and handed out candy at church. They loved seeing the little people all dressed up.
