lawyers are expensive for them too. only if a claim is litigated do they assign it to a lawyer --when you get an atty so will they.

I do not know what state you are in but if you have been 14 months on worker comp I would get a lawyer. There are requirements by law that most insurance companies adhere too so no for that portion who needs a lawyer. The problem lies in that the insurance company will use all of the gray areas both in the law and your injury to low ball you.

The best thing I got from my lawyer is he knows all of the players in the game (Doctors, Judges, Insurance companies) and that has been valuable in choosing an IME doctor. Also once I got a lawyer the deamenor of the IC changed. They knew they couldn't play in the gray areas any longer.

Check with you lawyer. Does he work on strict contingency (plus a small office fee). Will he attach his contingency to money you already are receiving (Bi weekly checks) [he shouldn't].
