Migraines
Yesterday was my second migraine in a week and I do believe they are stress related.

The first migraine was my first experience with flashing lights and was shortly after my teenage niece moved into my home.

The second one was yesterday and as I said before I do believe it was stress related as I was having a high amount of leg/nerve pain. then doctor told me I will likely need hip surgery and then I learned the judge did not make a decision to allow treatment of my knees but will instead send me to yet another doctor before making a decison.
By eve it was migraine time.

This time the migraine left me feeling drained all day.

I was wondering if this the usual after effects of a migraine?

RE: Migraines
Bummer I have no experience with migraines. I do know that people have been admitted to the hospital before to control them becasue they are so devastating sometimes. I feel horrible for you. You are under a great deal of stress so it is no wonder that a side effect would be a migraine headache. I hope you get to feeling better soon. I will be praying for you...love Red

RE: Migraines
Thank you Red.

I've had headaches before but not what I would call migraines.

Those just started recently.

RE: Migraines
my migrains are cluster migrains and can last for weeks....or just a few min....and they drain everything outa you......one of the ways that help is to get in a shower get the spray on the back of your neck and alternate the water hot as you can stand it then as cold as you can stand it back and forth or heat pad and ice pack on the back of the neck.......goodys powder is also better than anything else over the counter......

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: Migraines
Bummer:
I used to get migraines and I would end up have a black area at what I would look at, like a book or something, part of it would be blacked out. it was wierd, specially if it happened at work and I was reading a blueprint and couldn't see part of it because of the black spot.
My opthamologist ended up having me get bifocals in my glasses, and also told me that the edges of the retinas were beginning to have cataracts on them.(probably from all the years that I used to run lasers). The bifocals helped and I didn't get as many migraines.
I used to make my room dark, since the light made it worse, and put a cold rag across my eyes also. I've been headaches lately due to the stress of W/C and my work situation, but thankfully not the migraines like before.

Jayne;
I'll have to try the shower thing next time and the goody's powder. I haven't tried it, I used Exedrin before but not Goody's.

Good luck
I hope you feel better soon.
Vickie

RE: Migraines
I would see my regular doctor for the migranes...and goodys always worked for me....it doesn't taste good, but it works within a few minutes..my migrans were stress related and caffiene withdrawl...I would be so sick, nausea, I had to lay down in dark room for hours til it would subside....but now I take goodys and it works for me....I still get the headaches, but not as severe as before...I suspect I might start getting them back soon tho.... never ends...I know how you feel bummer...they are horrible...but I too will try the shower trick....

no where to hide

RE: Migraines
I used to have migranes BAD! I would get at least one a week, and usually left me out for two or more days at a time. The Dr did some stupid tests, to make sure the where REAL migranes where they hooked my head up to a bunch of wires and monitered my brain while having me stare at patterns of flashing lights.
they where in fact real migranes, not tension or other headaches presenting in a migrane fashon.
They perscribed Immitrex which helped to a degree, but didn't decrease their occurance.
Two years later I was given Electro Convulsive Theripy as a last resort to treat my depression... The depression didn't go completely away, but guess what... I have only had ONE migrane since, and it has been almost 10 years now.

A co worker of mine who suffered migranes so bad that she was missing work 3 times a week, and causing many other problems in her life was given all the other possible treatments that they could think of. She discussed ECT with her doctor and after 3 months of last hope medication, they did 4 treatments. Her migranes where completely gone. When she returned from her 2 weeks away (it screws with your short term memory though) she thanked me for telling her about my experience. It was her first 2 weeks in over ten years that she didn't have a migrane headache!

Sometimes Zapping the brain with 20k volts is all it takes to solve the problems. Only thing is, after you have the treatment you are banned from taking any medication that even has a remote possibility of causing seziures!

RE: Migraines
My dad has suffered migraines for a very long time and sad to say, still continues to deal with them. His too, are stress related. One of his doctors said before that in order to relieve the stress migraine, you have to relieve the tension in your head because your blood vessels are moreless throbbing. My dad always takes deep breaths in through his mouth and out slowly through his nose. This helps relieve the tension and calm the nerves. He also does the opposite of most people. Instead of using cold compresses, he feels that hot works best ..very hot. He's had me microwave damp wash cloths and he'll place them on his eyes. If you get migraines frequently though, he uses "Imitrex" and swears by it. =)

RE: Migraines
I was having such bad migraines after my faucet injections and the muscle tightened in the back of my neck causing spasms. I was so bad i almost got myself killed by taking Nyquil i had in the cabinet for the migraine before work and almost fell asleep at the wheel. I hit a road barrier and it woke me up thank god with no damage. That is when i went for help QUICK!

The doctor gave me a botox shot in the muscle on the back of my neck and i have been fine since. Also have high blood pressure pills that help. Good luck.
