RE: never never never
Several years ago one of our cows was in heat and the bull from the pasture accross the road jumped the fence of the pasture he was in and the fence of our pasture to cozy up to our cow.
Guess that bull was determined. |

RE: never never never
normal its called normal...I came right from the pasture to an epsom salt bath......I knew better than to do what I did .........but it needed to be done.....I am really really really sore.......I dont eat veal.....baby calves are to much like a dog they just follow us around and want fed(kinda like a man also)but once those buggers get grown and stubborn I have no problem sending them off to the butcher..(the cows not the men).I am not into blood and gore so I do not enjoy butchering animals myself but can do a chicken or fish easy, but dont want to mess with anything bigger.
;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: never never never
When I was married to my 2nd ex-husband, one of the jobs that we did was to work on a dairy farm. Now if that wasn't a world of fun !!! Having to milk 350 cows 2 times a day. But all the fresh milk that you could drink was terrific!!!
What wasn't fun was when one of the bulls would get into the herd at milking time and you had to try and weed him out. I don't know how many times I fell in puddles of cow dung .. or flung myself over a wooden fence when the bull charged. That is the one and only time that I believed in using a zapper. Y'alll would of had a good laff the day we had to go and get a momma cow and her calf out of one of the back meadows. This dairy farm was located at the base of the Tetons in Victor, Idoho and this was in November at about 4 in the afternoon. I was in bib shortalls and tennis shoes when they came in yelling at me to get in the truck as they needed my help (I actually wasn't employed by the owners but they used me if needed and never paid me). So off we go, the grandfather, another dairy hand and me. We could only go so far in the truck due to a crick that ran through the property. So we traipse across the meadow and get the calf to start following us by leading momma. But momma won't cross the crick. Grandpa picks up the calf and tries to throw it across the crick and it lands smack dab in the middle. So I have to wade in and get it out and put it in the back of the truck. I am now soak and wet, and mud from head to toe. The other dairy hand decides to lead momma cow back across the meadow and in through the gate to be milked (dumb#$%%^^^&&***((())))%$###) why didn't you do that in the first place I think to myself) while I have to ride in the back of the truck soak and wet and covered with mud the long way round back to the barn. I had to rassle with that dinged danged calf the whole way. And I ain't no steer wrestler ~LOL~ Angel ^j^ I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane. ************ Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open |

RE: never never never
Angel - I have a clear mental picture of you in the back of that truck with that calf. I'm sure you froze your hiney off the whole way home. Do you still steer wrestle, LOL??? you poor thing that had to be a miserable ride, but thank you for the story as I am sitting here laughing too
![]() When I was in FFA in a little town right outside of Lubbock, part of our initiation was being chased and zapped with a cattle prod. The zap isn't quite as bad as most people think...after all the stem units and stuff we have been through we would probably just think it's another IC treatment as long as they disguised it and we didn't know what it was, LOL
