RE: contest?
I haven't started putting them out yet - we have been having storms - and with hail coming to my front door the other night - I am sure they would have been messed up as well.

I decorate my entryway and so really they are surprised when they get there and see the decoration because most of them you can't see from the street - part of the mystic of the house.

So other than a sign out front that say spells 50 cents - and of course lights on saying that we are accepting trick or treaters - they don't see the full effect until they get to the doorway.

I may check out walls and see what else they have this year - I love that store because you can buy stuff at very reasonable prices as far as decorations go during the seasons. I don't do the inflatable stuff because it is just not part of the holiday to me - Halloween is more of the mystic holiday and Christmas is the day that you go all out for decorating.

RE: contest?
CRABBY ...I think that would be a wonderful idea. All my decorations are in Oregon stored right now..so I could not play per say, but I could be a judge or something like that. We could choose 5 people to judge the pictures based on a criteria of a few things such as scary voted from 1 - 5 with 5 being the scariest, and then most fun...etc. Just some thoughts running through my head, not really though out but I think what you have suggested would be a lot of fun for halloween and for christmas. Then we could send prizes for the most points etc. Just some thoughts..love Carol

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

sounds like a plan to me....maybe the prize could be a small gift card from say like walmart....they're everywhere...I would contribute some of the prizes....if anyone has another idea about prizes please let me know..the reason I say a gift card personally, is that the winner can get whatever they want....gift cards are just my preference...cause it is so hard to figure out what people like, but I'm open to any suggestions anyone has...please advise me...I'm getting lazy in my old age...grandkids and family alike always get gift cards...I don't have the ambition to go shopping like I use to....or the energy....Red I like the 1-5 system, works for me....I would also volunteer to be a judge....leave the work to the rest of you guys....my stuff is in storage...

RE: contest?
Crabby I think it's a wonderful idea, but this year I'm gonna be a bah humbug starting with Halloween Sad We scared the living crap out of kids several years ago. We had a live vampire (BF's 6' son) On the roof and my daughter dressed as a witch under a blacklight in the very corner of the porch. We also had house and yard decorated. If they were little ones we didn't scare them but the big one's we managed to get pretty good. BF and I just sat on fence where no one could see and laughed our butts off.

Lately I've been doing way to much and just can't handle anymore. Will probably go with BF to take his little one's Trick or treating. Sorry to be bah humbug, just tired and hurting but I do think it's a wonderful idea Smile

RE: contest?
I guess I will be the only one decorating for halloween it looks like ......... but how do I send in pictures of my entry way???? any ideas there jayne - you've seen it - because most of my decorations can't be seen from the outside - like I have mentioned.

Christmas will be different - I still need to get down my decorations and see what is good from Iowa and we will go from there.

RE: contest?
I think it is a great idea, but being I live in the boonies and don't get trick or treaters, I don't decorate. Now Christmas is another story, I usually go all out with my decorations and lights.
and I remember several others that did also, Sweet didn't leave any space that wasen't covered with decorations.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
It's about learning to dance in the rain.
