RE: ok feel like im gonna breakdown
Its a fact of life Druggies use the ER it really makes it hard for the rest of us....I know with me because I am drug sensitive and have a list a mile long I cant or wont take sometimes they feel as if I am drug shopping cuz I tell em exactly what I need.....My Doc took the time to put on their computer(at hospital ER) my allergies and what and how much to give for my migrain I dont have a problem anymore unless we get a new Doc that wants to try something different just for fun...I always tell em to call my PCP and if he gives the ok I will try...he sets em stright pretty quick...I am very lucky to have private insurance.....I went the WC route that is why I will never vote for a national plan ......ask your doc to write up and sign a RX for you to carry in your wallet in case you have to go to ER...I carry a copy of all xrays and rad reports with me wherever I go cuz you just never know when an accident may happen

RE: ok feel like im gonna breakdown
I was just curious around what age you are Mel. Only because being young ( i know this sounds crazy) but maybe they do think you are just trying to get drugs. Sometimes it is easier to get meds when not being so young if you know what i mean. There is so much going on right now with selling , abuse etc. I understand your pain as i am currently out now with the same problem. I start my new job tomorrow full time after not working 9 months.
I see you went to the ER and if i was you i would demand in the am that they do a EMG test on you and send you to a neurologist to give you a referrel to a pain management doctor to control the pain till they figure out what is going on. I wish you the best and hope you are not offended by me asking. It is hard to tell on here peoples ages and sometimes you think of that when trying to answer questions. I wish you the best and keep in touch with us to let us know what is going on with your care. carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |

RE: ok feel like im gonna breakdown
Mel,
Sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. Something that you might try is getting what is called a cervical pillow, which allows your head and neck to rest in a neutral position when sleeping. (I bought mine at wal-mart for around $10.00 back in '05 when I had cervical issues). You can also try alternating with a heating pad and ice pack on your neck. Use the heat for 15 minutes, and the ice for 5, alternating 4 times before resting your neck. An easy home made ice pack that you can use at home. 2 gallon freezer bags, 2 parts rubbing alcohol to 1 part water. Mix the alchol and water in one bag, zip shut squeezing out all the air as you go. Place this into the 2nd bag, squeezing out that air as we. (the two bags are to keep anything from leaking). It will never freeze hard, so easier against the injury, and conforms to the injured area. Also, with there being symptoms of cts, when you are trying to sleep, if you can sleep on your back, place both arms on pillows at your side to elevate them. This will help with any inflamation that you might have. As for meds, I was given a new one by my PCP for the recent problems that I am having. It is called panlor. It was introduced to help with migraine headaches, but is now used for many other types of pain. It basically helps to interrupt the flow of pain to the nerve interceptors in your brain. And although it helped me to sleep at night, it didn't leave me feeling drugged out in the morning, and I could take it during the day as well. Hope that some of this will help you out. Angel ^j^ I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane. ************ Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open |

RE: ok feel like im gonna breakdown
Mel...my heart goes out to you. Prednisone is a fairly fast acting steroid. You should see a difference in maybe 48 hours of starting it depending on how it's prescribed. Also please start the heat and ice routine. It really does help. I know ice hurts horrible at first. Be sure to wrap whatever you're using for ice in a towel. Don't put it directly on your skin. I remeber reading somewhere once that if he helps it's nerve/not nerve and if ice helps it's nerve/not nerve and for the life of me I cannot remember where I read it or which one helps for nerve pain.

RE: ok feel like im gonna breakdown
mel..I am so sorry that I was not around yesterday. I know how difficult this is for you and how painful. The group here is a very loving and very knowledgable due to having similar experiences. They have given you excellent information. I am so sorry that the trip to the ER did not have better results. You do need some vicodin or percocet. When my husband was hurt he had a hard time obtaining anything for pain. It was awlful. Fortunately at the time he was in the process of having a lot of dental work, and they easily gave him prescriptions which really he was using for his neck and shoulder injury. That helped a lot. I can only imagine if you are not getting anything that you are about at your witts end. I wish I could magically send you some but I can't ... Red
