Mike Ditka
What's your response to Mike Ditka going to capital hill for the Disabled football players? just curious?
I caught the part where Mike is asking that these disabled players not have to beg for what they deserve...I for one think that celebrities (movie stars, athelits, show hosts, etc) are way overpaid...At least they should have some money to fall back on.. there is no balance in this country anymore...Why can't we get someone to listen to us!!!!! you can't even go to a game without it costing you a fortune anymore....where is the justice here!!!!!! Then I'm watching doctor Phil today, and it's about the young lady that was dressed inappropriately on Southwest Airlines, and asked to cover up....when did this happen 2 weeks ago, she's already on Dr. Phil, and getting her appology!!! now that's a real problem!!!! There is no priority....sensational stories come first I guess. I'm sorry I'm just very agravaed today...I'm thinking about where I'm gonna be in a few months, and how I'm gonna do it by myself...and right now all I want is revenge...I know that is wrong, but that's what I think about, when I think about these people....and what they're putting me through, and all the threads I'm reading and the games just keep continuing ...days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months....it never ends ..... no where to hide |

RE: Mike Ditka
CRABBY...I do know how you feel about all this and right now it is hitting you very hard physically, financially, and emotionally. That is very understandable with all that you have been through. I don't disagree with anything that you have said, and I wish the world was different. However, it isn't. That is hard but it is the truth. The people of our world pay more for entertainment then any other markable resource we have today. Hince, if the employers are getting paid big buck should not the employees expect to be paid big bucks.
As for the next subject that you brought up...about disabled ball players going before congress. Can you view it as a workman's compensation situation and that they are going before congress about this sort of issue. Yes they are targeting a well paid population of people, but they also fall into a W/C sort of situation when they can no longer play related to an injury. Here is how I see it. For years there was no money for research about Multiple Sclerosis the number one disabily young persons disease. Then suddenly in 1984 there was a wide spread controversy and world expousure about HIV / AIDS. HIV/Aids has the potential of affecting everyone becasue it is a blood borne pathogen that spread easily. This being the case, it put the entire US in a tissy and suddenly money was pouring from every where to help stop this massive disease. Did you knwo that all treatments for MS today is a direct result of HIV/AIDS research and the money that was provided for that research? It was. In 1996 just a few months before I was diagnosed the first treatment to assist with the slowing of the progression of disability of MS was approved by the FDA. This was a miracle for people with MS. Now using that same anology and compare it to this ball player being heard by congress .... where will it lead next. Do you think that maybe it could lead to the entire system. I believe it could. I don't know anything about what this is about, so I may be really of course here, but if it is an injury as a result of doing a job whether it be play ball or work on an industry line..is it not the same? Do you not believe that congress may see this as a factor in the whole situation. It is not a sure thing, but always a possibility. So just off my head how do I feel about it...I think it could be a good thing. Espeically if it is related to the W/C system as a whole. I know that the world is unfair interms of how much an entertainer or a ball player makes, but we all pay for it and as long as we do, it will continue. I am so sorry CRABBY that you are having a not so good day. I am also glad that you knew that we would all be here to support you... you are a kind and loving person and I feel very honored to know you...love Red Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. |

RE: Mike Ditka
Crabby,
I believe Ditka and his group, "The Gridiron Greats" are trying to help old football players from sometime back, well before the current group of NFL millionaires came along. Some of those guys, who built the league into what it is today, didn't even make enough to support their families at the time they were playing. They had to take second jobs. For more info read "The Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund Hosts NFL Congressional Hearing Forum On Retired Players" at http://www.workcompblog.us/article.php?s...120612461. Red, great points. |

RE: Mike Ditka
I admit that sometimes Lady Liberty's scales are somewhat imbalanced, but anytime something or someone helps to make up that balance has to be good. I know that sports, ,movie, television celebraties DO seem to have quite alot in their favour. But I have to say that when people like Ali, and Michael J. Fox come forward and try to make a positive input, even if they are rich and have the scales tipped in their favour, it has to be a really good thing. It highlights new research and puts it in peoples minds that work still needs to be done. It is very sad that much research seems to have to be triggered when someone famous gets ill, but that is a fact of life, so far. And wc sucks. But so does the entire health insurance thing. It is time for a change.

RE: Mike Ditka
Thank you for the input...your all right of course...but it is so frustrating to see some of these people getting the publicity we so desparetly need for all to hear....I guess I was looking at Mike Ditka's effort all wrong, maybe he will be able to bring light to the situation....it just caught me off guard I guess....I feel so passionate about the wrongs being done with WC...as all on this forum...and it upsets me that none of the celebrities seem to want to give it back to the people that have made them what they are today....and always seem to be asking us for more, when we have no more to give....I apologize for my outburst...thanks for shedding a different opinion for me to see....

RE: Mike Ditka
I understand your frustration crabby. And you're right...why does it take a celebrity to fall ill b4 something is done...such as Montel, Michael J. Fox, etc. One thing that REALLY burns my a$$ is how much money did the U.S.A. spend on sending a space shuttle up??? All that money could and should have gone for sooo many other needed things... medical research, hungry kids in America, homeless, and the list just goes on and on. I don't know the price of rocket fuel but I'm sure it isn't cheap and it surely isn't justified!!!! Glad you came here crabby to vent.

RE: Mike Ditka
Okay here's my dumb question for the day...other than Oprah and all the other talk show hosts is there a true celecbrity out there who you think might back our cause. Julia Roberts pops inot my mind just because she's so sweet and I like her movies. Can anyone think of a celeb who was hurt in the making of a film etc who might have a soft spot for what we aree going through? Maybe we could email or whatever them and see what happens? I know I am grasping at straws but what the hec!

Paula Abdul......knows first hand, what unrelenting pain is...but I don't know if she would be of assistance, or even approachable.
