Back from the Doctor!
I had my appt. with My PM Dr. Today, and as Promised, I wanted to let all know how things went. As some of You may know I had some changes in my Spine since my last MRI, my Pain lately had been increasing, and that's the reason I went onto the Duragesic Patch to try and Help, and also the MRI to look for developments. Happily to say as far as the new Meds. go, my Body is adjusting pretty well, a lot of my stiffness is gone, and the Mornings aren't so bad for me, the news on the Spine, on the other Hand not so good! My Spine at the L5/S1 area, where my Surgery was done is twisting, and sliding in opposite directions, the scar tissue has grown more, so the Pain I have been feeling wasn't so much the Meds., but the changes in my Spine. It's pretty simple, I'll Never Work again, as long as my Spine stays stable everything will be O.K. with the exception of Lifetime Pain, but with my Ligaments having Arthritis and my Core Strength weakened, with no safe way to exercise it, there is no guarantee of the Spine staying stable. I'm kinda playing Russian Roulette, not knowing from Day to Day what will come, but hey, no one said it was easy!! The worst part of it all is I found out Today that the Surgeon LIED to me and told me He only did a Partial Laminectomy, using the Drummel Like Tool to clean out my Foranim to allow space for the Nerve, He actually did a Full Laminectomy and removed the Bone, and one of the reasons for my Spinal Slide is the fact that the Bone being removed has allowed the slide!! So all of my Nerves around the L5/S1 area are arched, and Pain can and will come from any of them at any time, just a simple movement can cause the Pain. So, what do you do, where do you go from here, I Don't Know, I just wanted to update everyone, and let you all know how it went. Thanks to each and everyone of you for your concern as of late, it's been Greatly Appreciated!! I may be off and on here sparatically for a couple of days, I have to figure out a New Chair or some way to be on the Computer, setting straight up and down in a Computer Chair hurts like Hell, and bending forward to type worse. But I will figure out another way, and I'll be Back Soon!!!

RE: Back from the Doctor!
Still In Limbo
It is good to hear from you. As for an office chair for your computer, our local United Cerebral Pasly Foundation has a program where they adapt wheel chairs, or any other type of chair. It take someone certified with the skills to successfully do adaptive sitting. You should have a program near you that will do the same thing. Please understand that UCP provides services all disabilities. I used this program many times for my daughter. |

RE: Back from the Doctor!
Stilll I am so glad to hear from you...and i know you are in so much pain. I wish that magic wand of lillies could take it away for you...maybe she will come and make it happen at least slightly.... now down to business. Can you ask your doctor for a referral for Occupational Therapy. They can make recommendations for a chair at the computer. Medicare will pay for most of this i believe and they will even get you the chair I believe. We did it for someone in our home once who liked to be on a computer but needed a different type of chair to sit in. Maybe this could really help you. This is just food for thought as you know how concerned I am about your welfare... keep well ok...love Red

RE: Back from the Doctor!
Limbo, I am glad the patch is helping, but I am so sorry that your back itself isn't going to get better. I started school (online) right before my back surgery. Thankfully I bought a laptop in anticipatio of not being able to set in a chair. I can set in the recliner and type away. I know it's another expense, but you can get laptops for a decent price now and with a router you can have the internet anywhere in the house. I don't know if it's possible, but it is an idea to keep you connected. I hardly ever use my desktop now.
You know I wish you the best in everything. i just wish I could take your pain away! |

ANY CHANCE OF A MALPRACTICE SUIT AGAINST YOUR DOCTOR THAT DID THE SURGERY...YOU MIGHT WANT TO CHECK INTO A VOICE RECOGNITION TYPING PROGRAM FOR YOUR COMPUTER,FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND,ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TALK TO THE COMPUTER AND IT WILL TYPE THE WORDS FOR YOU. I THINK THESE HAVE BEEN OUT LONG ENOUGH THAT THEY SHOULD BE AVAILABLE AT MOST PLACES BY NOW AND MAY HELP YOU WITH YOUR INTERNET AND TYPING PROBLEMS.I AM TRULY VERY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR RECENT NEWS AND HOPE THAT YOU CAN FIND A WAY THROUGH IT...TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELF,WE WILL ALWAYS BE HERE FOR YOU AND WILL UNDERSTAND WHEN YOU CAN'T VISIT....TAKE CARE MY FRIEND!!!!!!!!!

RE: Back from the Doctor!
Limbo, I am so glad the patch is taking affect and helping. I am so sorry nothing else can be done but will continue to pray for stability of your spine. You might want to call the Office of Voc Rehab. We have a really good one who does alot to accomodate disabled people. Try giving them a call and see wht they are willing to help you with. As you know it goes on a sliding scale. They did many things for me free of charge with my first injury. Prayers my friend, CAP God is never late. In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years. |

RE: Back from the Doctor!
Thanks for the Replies Everyone! I'm still working on my Hoveround Wheelchair, it's tied up in Paperwork at the moment, but I will be able to use it for a Computer Chair, it's very comfortable and reclines. I Thank You all again for the well wishes, this is not going down too good for me, I was hoping I would have at least a few more Years before all of this started, but I guess if it has to be now I can't change that, and I'll have to learn and adapt. I just think if w/c was gone from my Life and I was Paid and done with them, this might be a little easier to swallow, but with the Stress of dealing with them and these New Developments, it just angers me to know they are holding my Money and trying to fight me back to Work, which my Dr. said is never going to happen, they know it, they are just playing Mind Games to get me upset enough to settle quick to get Rid of them!! But I'm in for the LONG HAUL, I have Patience by My Side, sometimes it's hard to find but it's there, and they will Pay what I deserve to receive, not a Dime more or a Penny Less!! Have a Great Day All, and I Hope Your Pain is minimal!!!
