FYI: MRI With/Without Contrast
Hello Everyone. I Hope you are all Well This Evening! I just wanted to jump on here and give you a Heads-Up on something New when Having an MRI with/without Contrast. The Hospital I use for my MRI's are now doing Blood work to check Kidney Function before introducing Contrast into anyone, at least as far as an MRI goes. I have had two this way prior, and this is the first time I had to have Blood work. When I asked why they said they were starting to do this to see if there are any long term effects of putting Contrast into People's systems on the Kidney's. So I don't know if they've had a Problem and now they are doing this to be safe, or if they are finding People coming back with Kidney Trouble after using the Contrast. Either way I tough it might be Good to let everyone know, so if you have to have Contrast done, you can ask for yourselves. I Hope this information is of some use for You, and Please Enjoy the Rest of Your Week-End!!!Wink

RE: FYI: MRI With/Without Contrast
yes still I have seen one of the famous class action law suit firms that advertise on the tv saying the same thing as what tweety says. Seems it happens shortly after the mri with contrast a person with kidney damage can have kidney failure.

So in my opinion considering the drugs most are taking affect the kidneys and liver functions it is always best to be on the safe side than on the receiving end of kidney failure.

RE: FYI: MRI With/Without Contrast
I am a phlebotomist and for many years i have been drawing blood before people have MRI's done. It is a BUN and Creatine that does check your kidneys to make sure everything is okay with them before you get dye. As far as i know , i have been doing this for 15 yrs. and have drawn this test many years before patients would go in to be tested. Just a FYI.

I heard the same thing Tweety. As a matter of fact, it was a commercial advertisement that mentioned it.
I think Bad Boy has a link that shows what meds or procedures are being questioned for lawsuits!

RE: FYI: MRI With/Without Contrast

Limbo...I find this so interesting. I have an abdominal CT scan done once a year since I have a spot on an adrenal gland. Since I turned 50 they have required blood work to check my kidney function before injecting dye. I have never had to do this before an MRI with contrast. Always understood they are different dyes used. I also need a steroid prep before the CT scan but never before the MRI. Very interesting.
