How to get Pain Management Dr

Hello all.. I figured I would write here to find out how others have gotten a pain management Dr under their w/c.. I wrote to my original Dr and he stated he does not treat chronic long term pain that I have. And my current dr will not write any narcotic prescriptions due to there is a limit here in TN w/o going to pain management. He has never referred me as to I assume it is because of my nurse case manager. Can anyone shed any light on how I can get a referral? I lay here in pain and my case manager says i CANNOT go to any Dr but my current not even the Er, that she would have to call my current Dr and see if he could schedule an "emergency visit".. I feel as I am getting the run around, I informed my attorney and he stated that maybe after the EMG ( whenever they do or do not decide to do it ) they will consider the pain management.. The only prescription my current Dr writes are non-narcotic and muscle relaxers which do NOTHING for my lower back pain at all. I even told him its not muscle spasms it is all in my lower back and just flares up..

I just don't understand at all I guess.. There should be some kind of reform to this W/c system.. As I feel that sometimes if I had "regular" insurance and not a work injury I would probably be alot further in treatments than i currently am...

reform can only happen when both employers and workers can agree. right now our political system is heavily weighted toward the business interests and their large political contributions.
without an equal amount of worker organizations to balance the pull state governments will continue to erode worker rights and benefits.

No 1171 you are correct...

All they care a/b is saving money... I mean how in the heck can you tell someone its long-term chronic pain but will not prescribe anything.... Just a crock of crap....

I sure would be nice to see the workers taken care of and not the I/C,

I mean what does it matter if is W/C or not.. The treatment should be the same, Just like if you don't have insurance as well.. Who is anyone whom can tell someone whom or how you can be treated?

It's a business; if it isn't about $$ they shouldn't be selling policies or taking investors $$.
Everyone should go into it knowing economics drive their decisions.


You are talking about a radical change in our health care system.
Not taking $$ into acct is what made our system very expensive and less effective.
Blank check medicine is not the answer in my opinion.

There were many many Americans against our new health care law and it only accomplishes a small reform.

It's difficult to be realistic when you are in pain and it's your health and not another's that is affected.

i just got approved for medical care and treatment after waiting 7 months of paying out of pocket. but now that its approved i was able to go to a PM doctor which i will now be going to monthly. i dont understand why they wont allow you to go to another doctor other then that one? weird.. i hope you talk to your lawyer and maybe other paindoctors (one that isnt friends with your ic or ncm)

Villui - Unfortantely in Tn you can request another dr. but its a one time swithch... My attorney doesn't want to use our only time to switch at this time. As he said if they can't refer me then he will contact them.... Plus since the pain management Dr from what I heard charges a/b $1500 per visit and here you go every other week b/c they only prescribe X amount of your prescriptions and then they bring you in and drug test you etc...

Just a mess to have to sit around and when the pain strikes hard there is nothing I can do but hit the floor in the fetal position... Crazy, crazy...
