RE: SSDI and workcomp
AQA, I just don't understand how they considered it as succesful if it didn't reduce your pain medication. I say this because this is what my doctor said the idea of the pain stim. is, and increasing your activities as well. Can you explain how you got your doctor to allow you to keep the pain stim and remain on the pain meds, and consider it a succes, even if your activities did increase? Lastly, if you come up for your disability review, won't the increase in activity hurt your case as far as SSDI saying you're still declared disabled? Because when my case was won, I was told you can't get disability based on pain alone regardless of how bad it was. Thanks for any help with this, I would love to be able to increase my activities but not loose my disability status. How did you explain this to your doctor and justify the pain stim as being a success, if you still had to stay on the pain medication?? Sorry if this sounds rude, I am just curious..

RE: SSDI and workcomp
Well, then this is really going to blow your mind. My pain meds. increased and I am attending a University. The state pays most of the tuition and books. As far as my SSDI, NO it is not in jeopardy.

I really don't have time now, but I will explain when I get back.

Now I'm back, and hers the story.

Back in 05 I was 39 and shattered a disc. It left me with permanent nerve damage. When I was 41 I applied for SSDI, after applyinh for reconsideration I was approved. In late 07 I had the scs implanted. The SCS does not handle all areas of pain. In my case, it handles the sharp shooting pains from the nerve damage. What it does not handle is the lower back pain and the left foot and calf muscel pain. I had a choice to make when it was inplanted. As to what area I wanted it to cover. I chose the left thigh area and as much of the lower back as possible.

Once I had the trial period and knew what the results were going to be. I enrolled in school again (hence more mobility). The meds. were increased to handle the responce of pain in the lower back, left foot, and calf.

While at school, I am allowed via the schools disability services to take breaks as aften as needed, as well as to stand an sit when needed. I started school back in 08 and have about another two years to go. I take as many on-line courses as possible, but the remaining two years have to be done on campus.

I hope all that makes sence.

8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom.
