RE: Checking on Sonny
Hey Bummer,
Yes, I am ok and thank you for checking on me! I haven't been on in a while. been outside enjoying the warmth, sunshine and my pool! I have been seeing a pain management psychologist lately (not because I want to) but because my pain management doctor recommended it. He is a jerk, riding on my last nerve, which by the way, is why I am always in so much pain and having to see all these doctors in the 1st place, CRPS! So I am just trying to keep my mind focused on the beautiful weather we are having in NY and spoiling all my nieces and nephews!

How are you and the group here? Hope all is well!

RE: Checking on Sonny
Sonny I have tried to respond to your post but have had computer problems lately.

I am so glad you are okay and still with us.

I wanted to give you an update on my medical. I am schedule to start the had surgerys September 13th, not on a Friday.. If I am correct I am looking at 3 or more surgerys which will continue over an 18 month time span.

The first surgery will be of the non dominant hand/left, this will be arthroplasty with tendon transfer of the cmc joint. I &have spurs and cysts that will need cleaned up with surgery plus 30 years ago I received 2nd & 3rd degree burns to that hand so ther may be some scar tissue to deal with.

The other/dominant hand will involve, carpal tunnel, cmc joint, and the metacorphal joint which is 95% collasped according to medical records. Additional testing will be done of the ulnar nerve/elbow to determine if I need surgery.

I am in physical therapy right now for the cervical spine and shoulders trying to get the pain levels under control before the hand surgerys start.

RE: Checking on Sonny
Wow Bummer! Glad to hear things are moving for you and that you will finally have some relief, yet, you will have to go through some tough times to get to the "yellow brick road" again! But I'm sure you know that already. It may be good for them to clear out the scar tissue if they can do it while they are already in there! Sometimes a good old cleaning can help.

The non dominant hand that has to have CT, CMC joint and MCP? (metacarpaphalangial) joint (sp.) I would try to do all as one!! It sounds like alot and it is, but I did my right hand basal joint and IP (tip of thumb) fusion at the same time and was sooooooo happy because going through so many surgeries it was wearing me down mentally and physically. I always tried to lump them together, obviously if the surgeon felt it was feasable! I had a great team of PT's, nurses and a great surgeon and that makes all the difference in the world when it comes to healing.

As I have said to you before and will continue to say to you now, take your time with these surgeries. They can tell you " let's do this surgery today and then the other one in 3 months and on and on it goes." YOU know your body and what it can handle and when. If you don't take the time to heal from one, the next one will be that much harder on you. OUR hands and hand joints will never be the same so make sure you can be comfortable with getting as much strength and use as you can adjusting after the surgery before the next surgery! Smile

RE: Checking on Sonny
Hi Sonny, thanks for the response.

You are correct as the surgeon wants to do the surgerys 3 months a part. I figure I needs 6 months or more between the surgerys.

The hand needing mutiple surgerys is the dominant hand, I may have posted wrong.
