RE: feel like they own me....
jerseylock,

Both are correct, if you refuse Dr's treatment then your right to be treated is ceased. I too am kind of "scared" of doing my ESI shots b/c I've heard soo many horror stories, but I'm like if I don't then my treatment will stop, and Lord knows I need to get better. But also maybe just maybe they will cure me. If not then its off to the next "experiment", Dr's can only treat you with what they "think" is the problem, the worse thing is being W/C the Insurance company is trying to keep cost as low as possible b/c of course they don't want to pay no more than possible. Even though your personal insurance is the same way but W/C insurance is ALOT different.. I would go with what the Dr says and go from there. But keep in mind without further treatment and you trying to settle definitely doesn't look good, I would get treated for what they want for as long as they want, that way if they cannot relieve the pain it is on them and not you. But that is just my opinion. Good luck!
And YES you will feel like the Insurance Company owns you, thats the way they like it!

RE: feel like they own me....
@ Hurt Back, I think your right and thanks for your opinion. It still upsets me that i will have to go along with whatever they want. I know that this is chronic, now i have fibromiagila and constant throbbing in my hips and cervical area. In the beginning i saw a spine specalist who said no surgery is needed. That was a year ago, i would like another mri because my pain has increased, what do you think of my chances of having that done. Thanks again for your input.

RE: feel like they own me....
I'm not quite sure a/b another MRI w/o you having to pay for it. Unless your Dr. also thinks the condition is worse. Best thing I can tell you is don't be "Heman" when they check you, in other words do what is comfortable, ( this came from my PT ) and just ask on your next visit, worse they can say is no... Good luck and I hope all is well..

RE: feel like they own me....
Jersey,

I would tell your treating Dr. that you feel your condition has deteriorated since your original MRI and you feel it's time for another to make sure that there hasn't been a profound change that is causing the continual pain and throbbing. Especially with it being in your lower back. If there is a nerve involved now, and it continues to be compromised, the longer you go, the less chance there is of them being able to do anything to release the nerve and have it regenerate.

Although not in my back, I have had trouble with the ulnar nerve in my left arm. I was finally scheduled for surgery to do an ulnar nerve transposition this Thursday, the 14th. Because there is so much damage to the nerve at this time, my orthopedic Dr is giving me just a 5% chance that it will be successful. But I am going to chance it. Better than loosing the use of my hand/arm before the year is out if I don't try something to fix it.

You are your best advocate when it comes to getting treatment. Dr's can't measure the amount of pain we are in. They can just observe and see how an injury has effected us in our gait when we walk, how we sit down, if we constantly adjust our position while sitting due to our pain etc.... the rest we have to verbalize and make them understand how bad it is and how it effects our lives.

If you have private insurance, use it to get another MRI and if it shows more wrong, fight to get whatever is wrong accepted on your WC claim and make the IC responsible for reimbursing your insurance.

RE: feel like they own me....
I totally agree with her statement, I would push the MRI subject as much as possible and let them know.. Its YOUR body not theirs, so don't lay down.. Get it done asap.. Also I too was asked when I went to the Dr the other day a/b my pain and I said same as always (which it is it never changes), so make sure that you are being asked that question, note sure if all Dr's do ask or not.. Good luck
