best security for your computer for jayne ans anyone else
My father is a forensic computer, and fraud investigator. He told me the absolute best free protection is microsoft security essentials. Ive had it a year now and anything that gets in pops up instantly and you just click clean computer and its gone. He says paying for protection is rediculous because when they brag it cant be penetrated its daring them to destroy it. Program it to update and scan once a week when your sleeping or at work. You wont be disappointed.

I agree. We had other software a few years ago and suffered an infection on some computers. The only one to catch it was Microsoft Security Essentials. That is all we use here in the office.

you have to distinguish specific security services to obtain a valid comparison.
most other products contain anti-malware, anti-spam, email protection, parental controls, firewall.
Security Essentials is just virus protection. and, of course,

it only applies to window based PCs and not other systems.

I prefer to get my evaluations and recommendations from the results of an independent testing laboratory.
One of the best I found is
http://www.av-comparatives.org/en/home

you can find their latest results here:
http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/st...ntl_en.pdf

they do many different tests and the most recent( linked above) was for on-demand protection and accuracy of file detection.
Security Essentials ranked 15th.
while file detection is extremely important other considerations play a part in one's choice and the best features of Security Essentials are ease of use and, of course, price.

The price is the best for ease of use and protection. All i know is before everytime my wife and daughter downloaded anything or opened emails they shouldn't have it crashed also our email was hacked a few times and got to our friends computers. Weve had malware, spyware and trojan viruses in the past alot and Since essentials no problems, but pricewise it cant be beat but everything becomes obsolete so fast nowadays its good to see it lasting this long. And delete your browsing history daily, it'll keep it in top form. We're all on workers comp here so macs are too expensive, they cost more than my car!

I personaly have not tried MSE, but a few in the family say its easy to use and has worked better then the store bought programs.. I have always had good luck with Norton's products, I use norton system works because it has alot of other usefull tools to boot.. But no security software is good unless you have it set to update, mine updates every 5 min..

Its all what you get exposed to. For me nortons let it all through including the emails. For hackers where theres a will theres a way.

Bk im not sure which one it came with the laptop in 2008 and set to update as much as possible, again not sure the timeframe ie 5 every minutes or so. The main problem i had was not knowing i had the bugs, full scans showed nothing, wife brought it to comp store( without my knowledge) and said no viruses, my father then used his stuff and found it all that was dated years before. Finally it corrupted my bios and had to delete and reinstall everything. Lost so much info. This could happen with any protection though, thats whats so frustrating. You can get an email from a friend thats been hacked and its all over. Hackers need to get a life.
