Heart Stent
Is it okay to go through Airport security with a stent in a Artery by the Heart?
I have had a really bad year. After losing 95# 2 years ago, My Heart went into AFIB with a sitting Heart Rate of 130. I was immediately Hospitalized because I was at a very High rate for a fatal stroke. Individuals with AFIB are 35% more likely to have a stroke and 1 in 5 die. 2 months later I had a Stent put on; 5 weeks later a cardio version was done to shock my heart back to normal rhythm. It has been a Hell of a ride since Dec. 2011 Through all this, I have added 4 more meds for life along to my Narcotic Cocktail. Blood thinners suck; I bruise so easy. I probably was messed up from being so heavy all my life; 2 Doctors said there was a great possibility I would have had a fatal stroke if I still carried that 285#. Anyway I was wondering about the Stent and Airport Security. I have had no issues with my back metal but this is by the ole ticker. LOL |

RE: Heart Stent
My Mother was given a card to carry saying that she had these stents,I dont remember why I am sorry my brain doesnt function like it used to.Were you given a card like this? Maybe your Heart Doc is the one you should ask every year new and better things are invented and what was new last year is out of date this year....
;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: Heart Stent
According to my source at the TSA, anything that is implanted is safe to go through the new screening apparatus that have been installed at airports and won't set off the alarms. What they are looking for is anything between the body and the clothing that looks out of place. Most people tend to think that the screening process is more like an x-ray. But it is the furthest thing from it. If you are worried about damage to your stent, there is no need for that either.
Even if you have a medical card indicating that you have an implant of some sort or another, you are required to undergo some kind of security search. Whether it be through the screening machine, pat down or the wand. The card just informs TSA that you have metal that could cause their system to alert. Most of the time it won't. How many of us walk through with dental implants and never have a bit of trouble ?? It's the same thing for stents, pace makers, SCS's etc. Angel ^j^ I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane. ************ Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open |
