I am a part time employee at a corporate restaurant, I work about 25-30 hours a week as a bartender/server. 2 days ago I was injured at work. I busted my knee and am on crutches. I am going to an orthopedic Tuesday to find out if I've torn my MCL, which is most likely what happened. If this is the case, I will be out of work for a while. The restaurant is paying my medical bills obviously, but how do I know if I qualify for wages compensation? How do I go about figuring all this out? I am completely clueless in this area and do not even know where to begin. I don't want to only ask my employer about it because I'm afraid of receiving false information. Any help/ideas here would be much appreciated!

RE: Injured & Clueless
top of the page, click on 'info by state', start there for basic w/c info in your state. you can also try going to you state's web site and looking for w/c info.

RE: Injured & Clueless
You should of filled out a wc accident form and your employer should tell you who your insurance co. is so that you can go to the doctors and have it billed directly to them. Also like the others have said, look at the top of the page for your state and most of your answers should be there. If not there is many people on here that will possibly help you to get them. Good luck.

RE: Injured & Clueless
where are you?
![]() most small employers cannot afford to self-insure and instead take out an insurance policy to protect them. If your employer is paying your medical bills directly then be cautious--they may not have insurance. This is illegal in most states. Many states have websites where you can confirm coverage. ![]() The rules on wage replacement benefits vary by state. While most pay 2/3, each has a different cap and a different waiting period. Without knowing your state specific information cannot be given. ![]() what state are you in? |
