New Health Insurance
Now that I am on Medicare.. I switched from regular medicare to a Medicare Advantage Program. With the policy I get a free membership to our Y. I went by there today and signed up and now i am a Y member at no charge to me... the insurance pays it. Got a membership card and went back over tonight and spent an hour to an hour and a half. Had a great time. Talked to my dr about it today and he said for me to use all the aquatics that they have, and to use the track to walk but to not use the machines as i could do damage to my body. So i said hey why not go and enjoy it since it cost me my favorite price FREE. Going to get my wife to gow with me some.

RE: New Health Insurance
I know people who go to the Y everyday, enjoy it with it adding to their health.

I have spoken to my doctors, surgeons, and physical therapist about useing the Y facilities.

I am released to do the stationary bike and swim exercises.

Last time I went I ran into some of my former coworkers and things did nto go well.

I take my son to the Y and watch him exercise.

RE: New Health Insurance
Bummer it grieves me that these few people keep you from exercising. You have rights to be there just as they do. I don't walk in your shoes but I know I wouldn't let a few stop me from doing what my body needs. Perhaps you need to go with a group of friends or your sister. Or get into the pool with your son. It's none of their business as to why you're there. You're there for you, for your son, forget them. Just do what is important for your body, exercise and stretch.

I ran into a former co-worker at Walmart over a week ago. She's said some nasty things to me over the years. This had been the first time I had seen her since my TKR. The crap started to come out of her mouth and I shoved my foot down it. I felt bad for her daughters but it was empowering. I figured I'd hear about it later on facebook but I didn't. I don't think she'll ever say a word to me again.

RE: New Health Insurance
You guys go excercies at the Y, help your body out. After returning home last night my wife says did u see a lot of fat people there. I replied with the only fat person i felt that was were was myself. My way of saying I did not pay attention to anyone there, I only paid attention to my own over weight body. I have to loose some of this body mass that I have put on the last 2 years sitting here at home. I don't care about others there and want to try and help myself fit back in to my regular size jeans. So if It means running into people i don't care for or my over weight body hanging out there let it be... it is for me and no one else. and I am delighted my insurance is paying for me to be there.

RE: New Health Insurance
That is great news, insurance actually paying for something!!! Congrats! All sarcasm aside, the Y has many wonderful programs to enjoy and that is great that you are using them to better your health. I too have recently joined a gym to help me lose weight and help my health all the way around. If I see anybody that feels they have something to say about me being there, being disabled or whatever....I will gladly ask them when the HIPPA laws were canceled and they were allowed to look at my medical records since they know what I can and cannot do!!

To many nosey people that have negative attitudes. WE suffer enough daily and do not need extra drama from outside people. And any exercise that we may be able to do is a major plus for all of us dealing with our different injuries and permanent disabilities. Well, I am off to get ready for my trip to the gym incase wandering eyes are watching!!

Bummer, I wish you the will to rise above for the sake of your son and the enjoyment and strength you may gain! (I send that from a good place) Smile Life is to short and precious to let the evil control our happiness!!

I wish there was a Y here.....Bummer if you let busybodies keep you away you let them win...go keep your body as flexable as you can...you owe it to your family and your self to stay as well as you can

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: New Health Insurance
We have Y here as well, infact thats where I started my first pt.. I did have a big problem with thier work hardening specialist in which caused me almost 2 months set back.... But besides the pt part, the gym and aqua therapy and the help was awsome... I had co-workers that I seen there every day, everyone was great except for one.. He always pretended to be a friend but watched me like a hawk... He was never man enough to say somthing to me but always said remarks to my wife at work.. We both were employed at same company, so with fear of her loosing her job I asked her to ignore and document the slurs.....

RE: New Health Insurance
Today i went and picked up my first script on my new medicare advantage ins. Got to pharmacy and there was no charge for it, ins. covered it 100 percent. So glad i had my wife drop me off her insurance, had she left me on here ins. from employer I would of had to pay for the script today. I am begining to love medicare. and do not know why my family complained about medicare when my mother was still alive. I find it to be better than ins. from group plans we have been in. Do others like their medicare coverage??
