Most unusual Christmas I've ever had.

Most unusual Christmas I've ever had.
Ok, so Christmas Eve, I was awakened about 11 p.m. with severe abdominal cramps - thinking it was a virus or something I ate, I sat in the recliner for three hours until most of it subsided.

All Christmas day, I'm being anti-social and spending most of my time enduring the cramps and taking OTC's for the pain. Finally, around 5 p.m., I couldn't take it anymore. A visit to the ER (local, small hospital) and a quick CT scan - and I'm on an ambulance headed 45 miles away to their "parent hospital".

ACUTE APPENDICITIS !!! It was within hours of bursting.

Just got home late today. I have to say, if you can, have appendicitis as a child - it's a lot easier on you. (As if you HAD a choice.)

So, the best gift I got was that little bag of stuff they give you at the hospital. Well, not actually ...... the best gift I got was escaping a more serious medical problem and returning home to my family.

Hope you all had a great holiday.

Happy you are now ok, and on the mend. Sorry your Christmas memory this year has to be an emergency surgery. Take care!

Glad you're home, glad it didn't burst. I had appendicitis as a 13 yr old, my appendix burst in the surgeons' hands as he lifted it out of my abdominal cavity. Of course back then all appy surgeries were open, now they're laproscopic unless there's another problem. My only problem was being in a catholic hospital and a nun once smacked a stick on to the back of my legs to get me to straighten up.

But once again, glad you're home, sorry you had to spend Christmas in the hospital recovering from surgery.

Thanks, everyone. I had the laporoscopy. Three smaller incisions. It's still pretty painful and limits mobility, but a better option than the laporotomy (open incision). I'll be "down" for about 2 to 3 weeks before I can return to fairly normal ambulatory activities.

Bummer !!
