Finished for the semester
Tuesday was my last day of class for the year.

I decieded to enroll in a computer class this semester, with the daughter away at school I don't have anyone to ask ,"Now how do I do this?" when working on the computer.

With a 80 decimil hearing loss the lecture part of the class was a challenge. I never was able to find a FM loop system that would work with my digital hearing aids. After a rough start the classroom teacher started working with me going that extra mile helping me thru the lecture part of the class.

Tuesday each student gave a Power Point presentation on the subject of our choice, (No R rated stuff) My presentation was over Inclusive Education of special needs students into the regular education classroom. I received a 100 % on my presentation.

The final was also Tuesday, I do not have my semester grade yet but I should end up with an A.

Most important I now have confidence in using the computer, and since the start of class in August I have written three grants for the non-profit I volunteer with.

I would like to take another class next semester but I need another surgery and according to the surgeon I need to have the surgery in the near future.

RE: Finished for the semester
I have thought of trying to take a few classes myself. Because of my disability i checked into it and my state will cover the cost of classes and material. But since I am on SSDI, and just got off TTD. and in the process of trying to settle my claim with open medical, because i Have a SCS and right now i am not a canidate for surgrey on my low back. need a 4 level fusion. Anyway how would this effect things if I would start takeing some classes in Janurary ?? You guru experts should have some great answers on this subject.

RE: Finished for the semester
CF the class I took would be useful if I returned to work which at this time my doctor says, no way.

I have used what I learned in class....so many times, it was really a good choice for me.

The hardest part with this class was the headaches I experience from the neck injury, I simply can not process information when having the headaches and they are more frequently now.

I am looking into enrolling in an online course next semester but I face the challenge of needing additional surgery, so I need to talk to my doctor about this first.

I am taking my classes thru the college I worked for as my tuition is free although I pay for my books. Doing so I do not have to use Voc Rehab services and meet their requirements.

CF Social Security has the ticket to work program for those needing training and returning to work. Specific requirements are in place with this program. You can get information on the SSA web site.

RE: Finished for the semester
our jr collage will let you take classes free if the classes are not full and you dont want a collage credit for them if you are on SS or SSDI you must of course buy your own books but lots of times the Teachers will tell you you dont need the book or you can get a used one. Here they are looking at putting the books on the readers like the sony, nook and kindle for a much more reasonable cost.
