CT Myelogram

CT Myelogram
So, I went to the neurosurgeon Tuesday morning as scheduled. He had the actual films of my MRI that had been done on the 12th. He showed me the herniated disk at T7-T8 and where they were seeing the herniation.
He also felt the MRI from Feb. 09 on my thoracic had been read wrong as herniated disks don't move up a level and that the disks were counted incorrectly. I am going to try and get a hard copy of that MRI next Monday so we can be sure.

Anyway, I am now waiting for an appointment for a CT myelogram with contrast so that he can see exactly how far the herniation is impinging on the thecal sac before making his reccomendations for what he feels should be done with my back.

I searched the forum for information on myelograms, but didn't find anything of any help. I have read on the internet what this procedure is, but was hoping that someone here could tell me if they have had one and how hard it is. Also, has anyone gotten the spinal headache and had to go and have a blood patch put in.

The reason I am asking, is that this procedure will have to be done in the DFW area (2 hours away) and I will probably have to find someone that will be able to go with me for it. And if I end up with a headache from it, there is no way that I would be able to go clear back down there to have a blood patch done. Would it be wise for me to get something from the person doing the myelogram stating that I had the procedure done so if I do get a headache, I could get help from our local hospital ??

I am about at my wits end with this whole thing. Almost, almost willing to live with the back pain instead of getting this run around trying to find a way to get rid of it. The neuro wouldn't give me anything for the pain, because I have a PM. However, he was in surgery all day and his receptionist told me that more than likely I would have to come back to see him to get a new scrip to help with the pain. *insurance wouldn't cover the last scrip he gave me* I am hoping that he will agree just this once to fax a scrip up to CVS to keep me from having to make that long drive. I ended up spending most of Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday flat on my back, either on the couch or in bed due to the increased pain from the drive Tuesday. Beginning to look like my days of driving long distance are soon to be a thing of the past Sad which means I won't get to see my grandbabies much as they grow up. Sad

RE: CT Myelogram
I have had several myelograms done, never got a headache from them. but if you do just go to an emergency room and make them aware you had the myleogram, i am sure they would treat you for it without anything from a dr saying you had it done. Myelogram are easily done, not that much different than a cat scan or an mri. But good luck with it.

RE: CT Myelogram
My ER will give me pain meds but only after they call my PM DR but we are a small town and my PM DR is a local PCP..that may not work for you there.....but a myleogram if done correlectly shouldnt bother you any more than a cat scan....now if you wanna have some fun ask for a disc o gram that will show the problem with no ifs ands or buts and if not done by a good PM doc you will leave your fingernails in the OR ceiling.....

RE: CT Myelogram
Jayne a disco gram brought me of the table 4 times screaming. That is one test I will never forget....That was worse than the 7 times that I have had kidney stones.
