injured and unable to collect security deposit
I was injured in 2004 and as a result have to deal with severe pain on a daily basis making it impossible to organize a lot of things like paper work etc. I had my own business, and workers compensation on myself. I tried to go back to work, but was unable to function, and ended up closing business entirely. I paid workers compensation premiums quarterly, and got audited once a year. Every time they did their yearly audit, they found all my numbers to be correct, and the amount of premiums that I mailed to them to be correct also. However, they kept saying, "We have to up your security deposit on your account," and make me pay thousands. Now it is six years later, and I just asked to have the security deposit returned again. The answer is still the same. We cannot even collect a security deposit if you set up to pay quarterly, and by the way, you still owe us over a thousand dollars. What happened to all that money that was supposed to be a security deposit? If I am in too much pain to be able to get and organize proper medical treatment, should I be denied every time I need treatment, and also if the client is incapable of organizing, can we just pocket his security deposits, which is at six thousand minimum, that I mailed in, and just deny that we ever collected it? I ended up just settling on my wkcp case for almost nothing, because I was so scared of being stalked, and followed all the time. It was too stressful, and scary, and they still will not return the security deposit even though I settled the wkcp case. After this experience, I would choose never to have a claim or account with MEM again.

RE: injured and unable to collect security deposit
it sounds like it was put towards any unpaid premium bill.
when you cancel a policy or the carrier cancels a policy for non-payment the deposit is applied to any outstanding bills.
if you are unclear about how the deposit was applied you should ask for an accounting of your last coverage year and any billings. ask for an explanation in writing.
if you don't get an answer keep going up the chain of command until you get to the president of the company. you then can go to your states insurance commissioner. it looks bad for the carrier if they failed to respond to you prior requests.
