Sorry if sounds callous but studies showed that any back sx ( or fusion even on one level) within one year will gave you the same effect as no sx at all. In your case , weight is an issue since it is an additional complication not only to your back muscles but to the whole body. PM&R is the same drug regiment that you on right now. Unfortunately for you, pain meds are not forever and after certain period of time - PTP will reduce amount of proscribed meds. Now I do hope that your case is different but prolonged use of pain meds / narcotics will affect normal family life in biblical sense. If you decided not to have surgery and to regain control of your life - gym, weight reduction and minimal amount of pain meds.if any.
