industrial disability retirement
I would like to know if I'm forced to medically retire due to a work related injury (safety employee/CalPers), would I still receive a retirement at the age of 50 as well as a industrial retirement? Or would I just receive the industrial retirement?

RE: industrial disability retirement
since you mention CalPers I'm assuming you are inquiring about state of california laws and rules.
each state has separate rules covering work related injuries and without knowing your state specific information cannot be given.

if/when your disability ends you could still apply for a service retirement.
as long as you are retired due to your disability you would not also be eligible for concurrent service retirement.
there maybe an exception that would allow a conversion of a disability retirement into a service retirement but that would have to be discussed with PERS or an atty.

RE: industrial disability retirement
Call your local county office of education and talk with their calpers retirement person. They can give you a quote and info on industrial vs service credit retirement and you can decide what is best for you. I know that with industrial retirement you can at some point return to work and back into the calpers system. With service retirement you can work as a retiree up to 960 hrs per year without losing any of your retirement benefits.

Let Go, and Let God......

RE: industrial disability retirement
Yes I live in California. My injury may force me to medically retire. I'm not really sure yet. I'm just trying to gather information to see what I'm looking at if they do force me out due to a back and neck injury.
