Ruptured Disc
I have been to see the specialist. He has sent me to a different physical therapist that works with back injuries as a specialty. His thoughts are that over time the ruptured disc will heal and I will be back to 100%.
He also said he thought the 3 buldging disc were a prior injury. I don't know that to be true but I guess anything is possible. Any of you guys experienced a disc healing and being back to 100%? I would rather not go under the knife... so I'm going to do his PT stuff and see how it works out. I just don't want to still be in the shape I am now and get sent back to work... if I still have a job then and go right back into this situation. Still no lawyer. Having a hard time setting up a meeting with one between the hours I work and the Dr appointments and PT. |

RE: Ruptured Disc
With proper treatment, the back can heal itself. Buldging disk are not a major issue. I know they are to you and anyone that has them. However; in the scope of all back injury's, a buldging disk is minor. The ruptured disk is a little more severe. As long as the disk are not pressing on the nerves and you are treating the back properly. It can heal itself.
I am curious though. Are your symptoms just back pain or do you have pain else where??? Take Care 8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom. |

RE: Ruptured Disc
I've had pain in both legs. Started off mostly left sided. Now it has moved to be mostly right sided... probably 70/30 split. I have pain in my crotch from time to time. Also in the lower buttocks on both sides.
It's not only pain, it is also numbness from time to time. I met with the new therapist today. I really like her. I get the feeling that she really cares and want's to help me get better. I guess time will tell. She also said that with the time that has already passed, if we don't see improvement in a couple of weeks we could be looking at surgery. Not something I wanted to hear. |

RE: Ruptured Disc
The literature demonstrates that over 80% if herniated discs with leg symptoms will resolve spontaneously whether you treat it or not but it might take 8 months or so. On the other hand, those with muscle weakness, loss of reflex etc do better long term outlook is best with surgery sooner rather than later . Finally, fusions are the worst possible option unless there is demonstrated instability at a spine level.
Bottom line - the only treatment that has any trac record of success for back pain is diet and exercise. What a surprise ! For more than you would ever want to know on the topic look ip the SPORT STUDY and it's dozens if reviews. Hang in there and you should be soon fine. Regards |
