No Insurance, hernia, working, Illinois

I am very confused with my situation. I have been with my company for 8 months. When I started I was part time. I was moved up to full time a month later. At which time I asked about benefits. I was told that I had to be full time for a minimum of 6 months to qualify.

About 2 months ago I began getting a slight pain in my groin area which has progressively gotten worse. I recently transfered to another store (one week ago). It is a new store and we have been setting everything up in the store.

I am not sure what set it off but I was in pretty serious pain for the majority of the day and decided to tough it out. Near the end of the day I informed my manager that I was going to go to the hospital to have it checked out.

I have a hernia, my manager called HR and they said I cannot apply for health insurance till October. From what i've read.. workmans comp will not cover it because I didnt report it when the pain initially started.


What should I do from here? I have an appointment at a clinic this week and I have been working light duty since then. I work in a automotive service shop if it means anything. Thank you in advance

employees are not required to diagnose their own condition. the clock on reporting work injuries begins when you know you have an injury caused by your job.
when did your doctor tell you your hernia was work related?

He asked when the pain started and I told him roughly a month ago and that it gradually started hurting intermittently. The day I went to the hospital I informed him that the pain was very bad the day I came to the hospital.
