News From the Neurosurgeon
Had the appointment today with some good news.

I do not have to wear the neck brace all the time, and can cut down wearing it over the next few months.

The X-ray shows the plate & screws are exactly where they need to be, and the neck is in alignment.

There is no sign of fusion happening yet and the doctor said at 6 weeks out, that is normal. He said we may not see signs of fusion until 6 or 9 months.

We talked about the headaches, neck, shoulder, & arm pain and he said it will take some time to see an improvement, and did tell me taking the meds on a regular schedule might help.

The doctor said I can do light housework but he does not want me working outside of the home. I return to the doctor in 2/3 months for a followup appointment.

I do feel the surgery was a success as I am already seeing a little improvement.

I was cleared to have surgery on the thumb/hand so that one day I can agin hold a pen/pencil. Not something I am going to rush into!

yeah I was so happy when I finially go to take neck brace off. But even after a year I still have balance problems and my left hand is still numb and I still get numbness in hands and feet

RE: News From the Neurosurgeon
broilerman I do hope you see some relief in the future.

I had to drive to Wichita to the appointment and then take the taxes to the accountant and I am paying for it tonight.
All that turning of the head, took a Loratab, muscle relaxer and have a heat pad accross the shoulders.

The doctor actually lets you drive? I could not even sit in a car for more than a few minutes, even now I can only drive for a few minutes. The actually had me just on percoset at first and didn;t have muscle relaxants until after a few months

RE: News From the Neurosurgeon
Yes I can drive short trips using the mirrors, the collar is not allowed while I drive.

Yesterday's trip into Wichita, the neurosurgeon, and the accountant was way more than
a short trip. I knew I was over doing it, but I simply did not have a choice.
And I am paying for over doing it.
