Medicare decision
Hi all,
I become elgible for Medicare in November. Now, what is your recommendation for the choices to supplement? I'm sure some of you have learned the hard way...which is the best choice. I take tons of meds that co-pays currently amount to @ $400 monthly. Any words of wisdom for me? Thanks bunches, Lilly

RE: Medicare decision
Lilly, Are you saying you will be receiving retirement SS and Medicare? If so there are many Prescription drug plans out there, I went with Humana , and I believe Bad Boy is with AARP. I would suggest if you have a senior center in your area you talk to someone from there, They are very knowledgable with all the programs and will help you in making the right choice for you. Good Luck and welcome to the ole folks club. ( if you are going to be receiving SS retirement) LOL

RE: Medicare decision
Congratulations Lilly!! We need to know if you are going to be receiving SSDI, or Retirement SSI. I receive SSDI and I'm still fighting w/c, so they currently are responsible for my injury Meds. and I only take a couple of other inexpensive Meds., so I only went with A&B. at first. Then I got hit with another Complication w/c doesn't want to pay for, so I currently applied for Prescription Drug Coverage at a reduced rate because of only having w/c Income and a small SSDI Supplement, and I'm awaiting approval. There are a lot of different Plans, it depends on your situation. I Hope your Pain is minimal, and you have a Great Day!!

Lilly,
I went with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana for a supplement to Medicare. My RX plan that I went with is Community RX as it seemed to be the best plan that suited my needs. There is lots of research to do with this. When I chose my medicare supplement there was a girl that came down from our Senior state office to discuss senior benefits and medicare changes. It so happened I knew the Insurance Commissioners brother and when the girl came down he had me hooked with her for a one on one conversation for my needs. My RX plan was discussed with me by my druggist. He is great and sat down with all his customers to help them find a plan suitable for them. He had printed out everyones medication profiles and sat with us. My druggest is not a chain so I get lots of personal attention. Do your homework and maybe try calling your Senior Benefits department for Medicare with your state office for help. I hope this sheds a bit of light for you. God Bless and take care! RE: Medicare decision
Lilly....funny that you started this thread because I got my paper work to fill out for Medicare today. I qualify on November 1 also. I am not sure what to do. I really don't need medicare so I most likely will not sign up for part b. I still have to do some research. If I find something interesting I will post it here...Red

RE: Medicare decision
Something to remember guys is , If you use any of your medicare for a WC injury , It will have to be paid back at the time of any settlement.

RE: Medicare decision
Take Medicare from SSDI Part's (A) & (B) from the start.
If you need a suplement Insurance, check many places. Like here in Illinois, they say Humana works better for us. Yes, I'm with AARP for the part (D) plan for now. Just like Tuffy stated. That is for my Prescriptions. I didn't take the Suplement Insurance yet, for I'm still on my wife's Insurance plan. Which when Part (D) from AARP runs out, her insurance then picks up. So it works for me. As you can see it's not as complicated as many think, it's finding out like I did, working on mine with Tuffy, and doing the math to see what best fits my needs. Some day, I will be on Humana. Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes.
