Prayers for Todd

I've posted before about my brother-in-law Todd.
Todd is in need of a kidney transplant and has had some rough times lately.

In December the line inserted in his stomach that connects to the dialysis machine developed a blockage.
He was in the hospital with surgery the first part of Christmas week.
Todd has been sick since Christmas and now it looks like he is facing another surgery to again replace the line.

My brother-in-law is a self-employed contractor working in construction; he hasn't been able to work since early December. He is the husband, and father/step father to 4 boys and is a young 49 years old.

I am asking for prayers for Todd that he may have the strength to face the road ahead of him, and one day be on the road to recovery.

I just got news on Todd, he was in surgery for 5 hours today.

The line to the stomach was removed and can not be replaced.
Todd will have another line inserted into his arm or neck, not for sure which. He will have to go to the dialysis center 3X a week and can no longer have dialysis at home.

The surgeon started quizing my sister-in-law about why Todd wasn't on the transplant list yet. I couple of minor medical things need done before he can be placed on the list, the surgeon wants those things taken care of now!

The transplant team is meeting in Todd's room in the morning to meet with the family about how to get things moving with the transplant. My nephew submitted a packet last month and is willing to be the donor, he has the same blood type as Todd.

It sounds as if the transplant may happen sooner than later.

It's a little more involved in being a donor than just having the same blood type, that is the main consideration. Extra tests sometimes consist of tissue or HLA typing may also be done to determine the quality of matching between the donor and the recipient. The closer the match, the lower the likelihood of rejection of the transplanted kidney. Hopefully everything will go well and the transplant will take place.

My sister had a liver transplant, 2005, hers had to be an exact tissue/blood match. My youngest sister qualified to be a live donor but in the end my sister needed a whole liver. She had her transplant July 6th, 2006.

My niece and Todd's daughter-in-law, Stacey is charge nurse of the transplant unit at the hospital where Todd's transplant will take place. Stacey's husband has gone thu some of the test to qualify as a donor. So far everything looks good for him to be the donor.
We just need to get Todd stable so the transplant can take place.

I will have more news after the transplant team meets with Todd and family this morning.

Prayer are being said but him and all the family. My daughter only has a third of her liver still working so I understand

the good thing about that Manley is a liver will regrow if given the chance

Years ago I worked at a county hospital in San Antonio, we had a 13 yr old with a lacerated liver due to a MVA. Doctors didn't think he could live with the remaining liver but were willing to try anything. Zinc supplements were given to him and the zinc helped his remaining liver to grow. Just an idea.
