iPhone on Verison -- Admin????
Hi Admin,
You previously posted that you liked the Verizon network, but on a later post said you went to ATT because of iphone.

So....................? What do you think about Verizon coming out with their own version of the iphone4?

I'm been holding out and waiting waiting waiting for this to happen.

Heard there are 3 differences "at this point".

1. There may be a slight difference in the shaped of the verizon iphone4 so the cover I "already" purchased won't work!
2. Can't talk and to other things at the same time, for now anyway!
3. Dang, I can't remember what the 3rd difference was, but I think it was on a positive note.

Happy New Year to you and yours!!! Tongue

RE: iPhone on Verison -- Admin????
from what I understood they were not going to be "exclusive" and both verizon and ATT would be selling them....

RE: iPhone on Verison -- Admin????
I was up for renewal with AT&T last October, but did not renew because I heard this was happening. I am also still a Verizon customer, using their mi-fi broadband card, so I can sign up for an iPhone early, which I have already done!

There are some differences between the two companies versions. The Verizon one will apparently act as a wi-fi hotspot, powering up to five wireless devices in range.

I can't wait to get the new Verizon iPhone. Chris, are you still under contract?

RE: iPhone on Verison -- Admin????
Yes, on contract with Verizon. Family plan with my son and 10 months remaining. However, I did check with Verizon and they said we are both eligible for the upgrade. I later read that Verizon is giving their current customers first priority. And I did sign up as well.

My older son and daughter in law both have iphone4's and I have fallen in love with them. If that is possible???? Tongue

RE: iPhone on Verison -- Admin????
There are, in my opinion, a few pluses that the iPhone possesses that other smart phones do not. Granted, the choices have vastly improved over the last year or two, and some phones are really giving it a run for the money, however, I remain an iPhone fan. The most notable thing in my mind, is it's ease of use. It is highly intuitive. In fact, when I first got my iPhone over 2 years ago, I was struck by the fact that, when I opened the box, there was no instruction manual, and no "quick start" guide. Just a phone and a charger. It is very simple to use.

The second strength is the app store. It has amassed hundreds of thousands of apps that can allow the phone to do amazing things. (I once accessed my desktop computer in Florida to generate and print payroll reports needed in the office that morning. I did this on my iPhone while hurtling down a Los Angeles freeway in a shuttle on my way to LAX) There are many more apps available through it than the rivals currently offer, but the gap is closing. One VERY important note: Apple screens and reviews all apps prior to being approved for the app store. This helps protect iPhone users from nefarious programs that can hack the phone or steal your identity. The app store for the Droid phones does not currently do this. Anyone can post apps and they are only removed if people report problems with any of them. Kind of the wild west of apps... I expect that will change, if it hasn't already.

The third strength is fairly seamless integration. Syncing the iPhone with my computer is really easy. This allows me to back up files and keep software current on the phone. Also manages the music on my phone easily. I currently have about 1200 songs on the phone, but can transfer them to up to five authorized computers. Pretty useful. Also, as an iPad user, it just makes sense to keep the same format.

Lastly, quality construction. A lot of effort went into making a quality device. This company does not screw around. If you do get one, notice the construction and design of even the packing materials. First rate, through and through. This is NOT a phone for children, however. It can break if dropped or mishandled. If you have a habit of dropping your phone in a horse pasture and having it stomped by a large horse, (something my sister did), get a Motorola Razr. Tough as nails. (it survived, despite a shattered outer screen)

On the negative side, I updated my iPhone 3G with the latest 4.0 software, and it has turned it into a paperweight at times. Very slow - I do not recommend that upgrade. One reason I have been anxious for the new iPhone 4 to be offered by Verizon. I know we do not allow naming of names here and the like, but I will say I am a very displeased AT&T customer.

Those are a few of my thoughts on the subject.

RE: iPhone on Verison -- Admin????
I've been a long time Blackberry user and love them. My son switched from BB to and iPhone about 6 months ago so I kind of wanted one. Got one last Oct and can say yes they are pretty well made but the antenna system is a bad thing on these phones. My iphone is a good play toy and that is about it. Maybe made 10 mins worth of calls on it in 3 months. Made so few calls I didn't notice for 2 weeks the mic didn't work on it so had to get a new one. Found out that Best Buys had a problem with the iphones they got at that time. Might like the iphone if you could change the alerts more, and yes I've been told if I jailbreak it I can but why should I have to? Going to pickup a new BB next month to replace my almost 2 year old BB Bold that I've never had one bit of trouble with. Forgot the other thing I hate about the iphone is the battery. Just don't like being able to swap out batteries on the go. If the battery goes out you are screwed until you ship the phone in and wait for it. My 10 year old has been begging for a phone and he might be getting the iphone 4 once the Blackberry Playbook comes out. I know some may not like my post but I'm sorry I would miss calls and messages if I used the iPhone 4 as my only phone because of it's lack of being able to change ring tones and messaging tones out for something better. I have my light set on my blackberry so I can tell from just looking at the flashes if it's somebody I even want to talk with, can't do that on the iphone, no message light to even set. You have to keep checking phone to see if you missed something

RE: iPhone on Verison -- Admin????
I understand the antenna issue you had - hoping the Verizon version is fixed for that. Not sure what you mean regarding ringtones. I can set all the ringtones I want on the 3G. I have certain tones for certain callers (wanted ELO's "Evil Woman" for when my wife calls, but thought better of it)

I also was concerned about the lack of a changeable battery when I bought the phone, but it has almost never been a problem. Since it charges from AC or USB outlets, and charges VERY quickly, I cannot ever recall being caught with a dead phone.
