RE: settlement question
I am also....thats why we paid all the bills off including our farm bought a new to us car our motor home and took a vacation now we live on my husbands retirement from the airforce, pepsi and our SSDI so we are OK
;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: settlement question
if you dont mind me asking was your settlement more than mine @ 91,500? you dont have to answer that. thats the big thing we want to buy the house we live in but the owner wants 100k thats why i wanted more i also wanted to buy a bigger newer truck we need it for our son,but i wanted to make sure we have a nest egg too. someone told me to talk to a finacal advisor and to look into municiple bonds too. part of me just wants to take the money and end it but on the other hand if they are gonna have to put 211k in that fund why shouldnt i get more that 91k. this is so hard to make a choice. if i do take the settlement can i re apply for ssdi? i did like 2 years ago but it was denied of course. i didnt know how that worked once you take a settlement. if i take the settlement then we only have my wifes income no more checks for me. ughhhhh this is driving me nuts.

RE: settlement question
yes my settlement was for more than yours....I had 3 blown discs in my neck with a failed fusion and 3 blown discs in my lower back with surgery not recomended because of scar tissue problems.....I listened to my lawyer and when he said sign I signed the settlement papers...I trusted him....I was awarded SSDI first time around....you can always try to go to school and learn a new trade or be a Mr Mom.....My Husband homeschools our kids and enjoys it....

RE: settlement question
thank you iam in my first semester of college and iam a mr mom lol my wife wants me to home school my son. i just talked to my lawyer and told him to go ahead with the settlement it will be nice to move on in my life its been a long road as i know you already know how it is. but i figure an 8 year settlement is good and i wont see much more than that. it would be cool to get ssdi in the mean time until i get on my feet again.

Blake - good luck! Thank good ness you are ending this road you are on and can begin the next chapter of your life. I was told by my lawyer that the ins co that covers my job does not like to settle and they will just keep going. I'm glad I have the money coming in, but its nto enough to cover the bills. I had hoped for a settlement to get us caught up and paid up and then SSD would cover our basic needs. My BF makes decent money but not enough to cver back bills. I am happy for you. Take care and check in and let us know you are doing. |

RE: settlement question
Congratulations on your settlement Blake.
I am a day behind you with my settlement as I settled yesterday. I was told this week at the settlement hearing my attorney would receive the settlement check, it is then deposited into the firm's account taking 10 days to clear the account. Once the check has cleared the bank, a check is cut to me. The settlement hearing is scheduled in 3 weeks, in Kansas all settlement agreements must have the ALJ's approval. A proposed MSA will be sent to medicare for approval of future medical. Your's may be different, your attorney should be able to tell you when you will receive your check. |

RE: settlement question
here in Okla once I agreeded to settlement a date was set to go before the court. the check came with them.it went into my lawyers account when it cleared the bank I went back to my lawyers office and we settled up....from the day I agreed to the day money was in my hand was around a month.....this can depend on the court as they must have an opening.....but your lawyer can can push it

Ah hahahahahah, sorry I know this is not funny, it's just I find myself doing my own research and informing my attorney on quite a few things.......he is not earning his 20% in my case. With they way things have gone for me so far, I could have done this on my own. |
