Changing meds to Lyrica

Changing meds to Lyrica
I saw the primary todday, he is changing my medication.

I had taken myself off of neurotin due to the upset tummy and side affects, never was able to take more then 600 mg a day of neurotin.

Seems the pain is keeping the blood pressure high, today was 156/86. norm for me is 90/70.

The primary gave me a script for Lyrica, he says it's time to go back on meds for the neuropathy pain. I'm also on skelaxin & loratab.

Today I am educating myself about this medication, trying to learn about the good & bad of the meds.

Just wondering if Lyrica has helped anyone on this forum.

Thanks Jayne, I remember you had problems with it but couldn't remember what it was.

Were you able to find something that works for you?

RE: Changing meds to Lyrica
Be careful with Lyrica, go up very slowly on the dose since you've experienced stomach problems before. Also watch your blood pressure, lyrica can make it go higher until you adjust to the dose. Along with that are the altered gait problems people experience, dizziness, etc.

RE: Changing meds to Lyrica
BK,

When I was first diagnosed with RSD/CRPS I was placed on lyrica. It helped for about the first 6 weeks. After that, it wouldn't touch the pain and I ended up gaining about 50 lbs before my Dr took me off of it and put me on cymbalta. I was still taking the cymbalta up till the time that I lost my insurance in Feb. 09.

I was also placed on topomax by my neurologist which combined with the cymbalta, morphine and lortab kept my pain levels even.. between a 6 to an 8 most days. I have a high pain tolerance (have had tooth extractions and root canals done with nothing but a local .. if even that at times) so was becoming used to the pain at that level and being able to function with it.

I never had any nausea nor dizziness from the lyrica. Just wasn't doing what it was supposed to. The weight gain was the only side affect for me (And I have heard that from many others as well).

As has been stated before, medications affect each person differently. It will take about 1 to 2 weeks before you get enough medication in you to tell if it is going to be any good for you. So give it a chance.

Angel ^j^

I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane.
