husband injured on job-seps to take??
My husband was injured on the job 2 days ago. His employer did not send him to the doctor, he worked for the rest of the day and came home. I could clearly see that he had a broken nose and made him go to the Urgent Care. Today I called his employer to get the name and number of the WC's insurance carrier so I could follow up. The respone I received was that it was being taken care of and they would call with a date for a doctor's appt. Don't we have the right to get this info. so I can make sure he can get to see an ENT to get his nose repaired? I just have a weird feeling about his supervisor considering he didn't even come out of hi office when this happened; much less getting him to get medical care at that time. My husband was told yesterday when he called in to say he would not be coming to work that they would have taken him to the doctor that day ( a day after it happened). Does anyone know the process we need to go through to make sure he gets his nose repiared?? Thanks for the help!!

RE: husband injured on job-seps to take??
yes.
maybe they are not insured and don't want the employees to know. some states have a website where coverage can be confirmed. Some states don't let employees choose which doctor is used. You did not indicate a location in your profile or what state your husband was injured in so I cannot provide further information. |

here's link to a searchable list to find which employers have insurance and which don't.
http://www.wcc.state.sc.us/Insurance/Verify+Coverage/ In South Carolina the employer/carrier does choose the doctor. For more information see their website http://www.wcc.state.sc.us/Welcome%20and...view/faqs/ |

RE: husband injured on job-seps to take??
rcofer, Welcome to the Boards! I'm confused on what the Employer said when your Husband called in to work the next Day. Did they want Him to lie, or did they make Him take the time off and not see the Co. Dr.? If they wanted Him to Lie about seeing the Co. Dr. I would be very weary about falsifying a w/c Report, and if they didn't send Him to the Co. Dr. why? You have to be very careful when dealing with w/c and Honesty is very important on the worker's part. Could you clarify that statement for me? Something just doesn't sound right!

I made him go to the Urgent Care when he got home from work, since they did not take him to the doctor that day. The day he got injured they did not say anything about him going to see the doctor the next day. With both of us being unaware of how WC works, we did not know the process and I did not want him to wait to see a doctor. They UC gave us the paperwork to take to his employer to fill out for WC along with his dx and records so they could give to the doctor that his company uses. My husband went to work the next day with the paperwork and doctor's notes for missing work and that is when they told him that they were planning on taking him to the doctor, after he had already been seen in the UC. so he was told that since he had already been seen that they would give the info. to their doctor, and would get back with him. He was allowed to go back to work the next day, and they still did not let him know. I called up to his work and spoke to his supervisor wanting to get the WC's insurance carriers name and phone number so I could follow up and the response I received was that it was being taken care of. I am just concerned because he has broken his nose before and was told he needed to have it repaired within a week of his surgery, which will be this Wed. I hope this makes any sense at all. Thanks for the help |

RE: husband injured on job-seps to take??
Is the Surgery He is having on Wed. to repair his nose? It seems fishy to me that you haven't been able to receive any info. from the Co. on His w/c Claim! I would my opinion only, call your W/C Bureau on Monday and see if a claim has been filed, and if the Surgery you speak of is for His nose, are they Paying? The part of this that Bothers me is the Employer not giving you the info. you need freely, they should have no problem answering your questions. You may want to consider a Consultation with a W/C Certified Attorney just to see where you stand. Good Luck, and please keep us informed!!

RE: husband injured on job-seps to take??
RCOFER
It is a requirement, by law, that there be some sort of poster, giving the name of the work comp insurer, as well as the company policy number, in a public area of the business, whether it is in the employee break area, on a door or a bulletin board. Your husband should look for said poster the next time he is at work. If not, the employer is breaking the law. In my case, when my employer would not give me said info (and there were no posters on the work site) I called the labor board and told them what was going on. They told me to go to the nearest walk in clinic, tell them that I was injured on the job, and be seen. In turn, once seen, the clinic started the process of finding out who carried my employers work comp insurance and eventually all bills went to the IC, and about 2 weeks into my injury, I finally received a letter from the WC insurance carrier telling me that my case had been accepted and gave me a claim number to use. Angel ^j^ I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane. ************ Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open |

RE: husband injured on job-seps to take??
you have every right to have the number of the carrier and also your claim number
call theworks comp for your state and you can start the claim yourself ... If their is a problem they will ask you what thenameof the company is and then will help you get started .. Not sure who you need to see for drs .. but you have every right to know this and dont let anyone tell you that you cant have copies of your dr visits either .. just sign a form for copies at the front desk and then they will send them to you .. """"""""""""""'Learn your rights """"""... sincee its never offered !! Ihave been just where you are now ! |

RE: husband injured on job-seps to take??
Thank you all for your input. I will ask mu husband to look at work for a poster for info. The Urgent Care did give us a number that we could call for Occupational Health that provides services in helping to coordinate care with WC cases, so I am also going to call them. I tried going to the SC WC site to see if a claim had been filed and one had not been with them, but they did have forms that we could file on our own, might call them Mon. also if my husband cannot get anymore information from his employer. All of this has really helped--thank you to all!!!
