The vanity or conceit that a persons' issue is worthy of divine intervention.

Cycler, sometimes prayer requests such as these are a form of bonding and support for people otherwise helpless, but who care deeply about something. Surely a superior intellect such as yours can grasp such a simple concept.

I have often wondered about the appropriateness of prayer in some situations. Football games come to mind, when both teams pray for a victory, when in reality they are asking that God specifically take their side while forsaking the opponent.

However, in this case it is a way for people to show support and give comfort, and that in itself often helps the recipient of the request. Your questioning in this thread seems inappropriate to me.

Cycler, that's what I thought you meant, I just I needed to be sure. Cycler, unless there are sick ulterior motives involved, I don't see how someone can be conceited or vain by requesting prayers for another. Particularly anyone who is taught - from birth - to believe and have faith in a personal God who hears and answers prayers--whether they're worthy or not.

admin, I couldn't help it, but you left me wondering what God, played by George Burns would have done with such a Catch-22 at the football game! [Image: zERthink.gif]

we pray before all sporting games......what we pray is that all do there best and that no one gets hurt

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: Prayers please for Sithie
I am glad things worked out well.

I stopped praying when my mother passed away 9 years ago. I felt that the higher power was a hoax and things where unfair. I had guilt for putting my faith in a higher power who let me down in the end... I was a very angry soul.

Well I tell you what I have started praying again and have found comfort again in the words and the power of above. It has really helped me thru some bad situations. I find asking for pray is a way of comfort and showing of care.

Just my thoughts.

I know I pray everyday that the pain wont be as bad and that my family makes it thru the day happy and healthy.

Live for Today, Love for Today, Laugh for Today.

Indeed, and intellect comments not withstanding, you are probably correct on the inappropriatness.
