Botox for chronic cervical pain

Hello again
Just came from my Neuro for my 3rd series of trigger point injections. My last injection set lasted only about 10 days. My doctor says I may have better luck with Botox injections providing the insurance company approves it. Has anyone had luck with using Botox for this type of pain?
The doctor says my body metabolizes the meds too quickly but Botox acts differently.
For those that don't know I have had pain since 2005 and have had 2 operations to give me my C4-7 fused with hardware. My C4-5 never fused

TPM please keep us informed as I have constant pain in the cervical area...I have a new pair of shoes that is helpig the back and I came upon them by accident....My Becca and I wear the same size shoes she bought a pair of those exersize shoes that are called rockers or something like that and she hated them to clunky she said so not wanting to waste a hundred dollar pair of shoes I put them on they were a bit different to get used to but that night my back didnt hurt so bad so the next day I wore them all day the change was huge....I went barefoot in the house the backache was back.....so I wear the shoes all the time which for this Okie who prefers flip flops its a hard thing to get used to.... to find something that would take my headaches away would be a godsend.....then maybe I could go back to work at least part time....

My insurance agent told me about the "rockers" shoes today.

She is 20 something with back problems and says they have helped her back more then anything.

Botox injections are often used for pelvic floor disorders as well as issues with the spine, and it works! Even though I have never had it, we do this in my office, and the diagnosis depends on whether the insurance company will pay for it or not. I just called my medical director to make sure that I was giving you the correct information. The doctor's office can always call the insurance company or claims aduster to see if the botox is covered. Issues dealing with the spine are covered more than the pelvic floor. The reason I am bringing up the pelvic floor is because pain in the back can also cause pelvic floor pain too.

yes it can work but only IF the chronic pain is coming from the large spine muscles in spasm. It won't work on pain from a degenerating or herniated disc or from joints.

I know some of my pain is coming from my surrounding muscles as I get some although not enough relief from the typical trigger point injections. Thank you for your input Cycler. These are all questions I need to ask my doctor. And is it true the Botox should be administrated while under CT guidance?

There is no medical evidence that supports TP injections as being therapeutic while there is such for botox. CT guidance is not a standard can be used for targeting specific deep muscles such as the piriformis although the risk/benefit ratio of the large radiation dose and cost increase of the Cat scan make such guidance of questionable benefit. The method seems to be mostly promoted by those with access to a CAT scanner if that is a clue.
