Info about knee surgery, trimming meniscus
When I fell I tore the meniscus on my left knee. Next week I am scheduled to have knee surgery to trim my meniscus. I am just wondering if anyone has had this surgery and if so, how did it go? Was it successful? What was the recovery like?

RE: Info about knee surgery, trimming meniscus
I had this surgery done of the left knee in 2006, and the right knee 2007.

Your question is difficult to answer without know the details of your injury.
Was this a complete tear, partial tear, were there any other injuries of the knee.

My left knee was severly injured and the meniscus repair was not a success.
I later had a 2nd surgery, a TKR of the left knee.

The meniscus repair of the right knee was a success and the knee gave me little problems until I reinjured it while using a cane.

RE: Info about knee surgery, trimming meniscus
Left knee trimmed 4 different times. First time surgery was fine, 2 weeks of Pt, couldn't tell after 10 days that I wasn't walking before surgery. Second time was a mess but that's a different story. Do your PT, keep your quad muscles strong and you should do okay.

RE: Info about knee surgery, trimming meniscus
I had a torn meniscus, and surgery. The recovery went quickly, and I was told, as soon as I could bare weight on the knee/leg to just do so, as it will go even better then.

The thing is, what kind of tear, what kind of repair, will all make a major difference to how the total outcome will be in the end.

Good Luck

Why would it scare you. It is going to work, or it isn't. That is all a surgeon can offer. After the surgery, the rest is really up to you, you do PT as instructed, you might be fine. You slack off you wont be fine. You wont know full results of recovery for 6 to 12 months.

RE: Info about knee surgery, trimming meniscus
In Sept. 2010 I had the same (ish) surgery. What has developed is a popping and a grinding. when I sit (like driving) and then stand, I have to hold on till I get it straightened out, then I'm limping. The popping is real bad when I'm in bed, it doesn't really hurt when I'm walking I just limp. In the bed when I'm asleep and move it is the problem

What does the doctor say about the knee?

Sounds like the knee may be bone on bone.
