No snow in march, no snow in April and now that every thing is blooming we get snow. Saying 2-4 here and in the snowbelt north of us 8 - 12....

RE: It's snowing
it is a beautiful pic... when we were traveling we were in snow from Diamond Lake/Crater Lake Oregon through Wyoming into Nebraska. Del was driving a motor home hauling a pickup truck behind it. It wasn't easy but I just played my games and let Del and God get us to my grand kids. It was worth it to see them... sorry to hear of the snow. I just got my small garden completed so please don't let it snow here. We didn't get any snow this year at all.... that makes me happy to be in Oregon...lots of rain however... Red

RE: It's snowing
Carol I also planted just a small garden......The garden was always Daddys territory and it was hard doing it ourselves this year.....But it is in and doing well the tomatos are about 18 inches tall and bushy...thanks to help from the chickens and cow manure...the greenbeans look very nice and the squash and cukes are coming along and of course we had to plant a row of sunflowers for Becca...tomorrow I will transplant water melons we will have about a 1/4 acre garden......I believe I will have plenty of tomatos to can and let Bill have his mater sandwich.......he cant eat them all summer just bread mayo and tomatoes......

RE: It's snowing
jayne that is not a small garden. I have only planted in pots and around the house in a small area. We planted enough tomatoes to can, and also enough strawberries to have fresh strawberries all summer and to make some jelli. I didn't plant any beans. I planted only 2 squash as you know will be plently for anything I decide to do with it. I will most likely can some to make bread with and then maybe some relish. My daughter loves this type of relish. I use to make it all the time. Being in the country again sure does bring out the farmer in me again. Del and I have been working in the yard for the past 2 weeks. Today we came home from town and the 4 Rodies that he had out sitting where he wanted to plant them the deer had fun with. I need to get some more apples to them so they leave my stuff alone. Del put out deer and rabbit repellant this afternoon so hopefully my garden will be left alone. I planted 16 strawberry plants, some ever growing, early plants, tricust etc... then I planted, 8 tomatoe plants, 20 onions..most likely too many, 9 cucumber plants, most likely too many, 6 leaf lettus, 4 head lettus, 2 squash, and a water melen and cantelope plant... do not expect a lot of these two plants will wait and see. I am having so much fun canning all my beans, spaghetti and meatballs, soups such as broccolli and cheese, vegetable beef, chicken noodle etc, chili, sweet and sour sauce to go over chicken and many more things... this is my week to can food again. I have 8 dozen quarts ready to go. I am canning some stuff for my daughter who lives here as well. I will enjoy canning this summer as well. I bought a new canner today as I have been using my mothers all winter. Your tamatoes or much larger than mine... just planted them.. can't wait to see them get that big... del has to put the wires around them for me in a week or two.. to keep them off of the ground. love Red

RE: It's snowing
I planted my traditional container garden in the large white buckets.

I only have tomatoes and peppers planted this year, the squash I planted last year did not do well.

My daughter planted a small garden, she is a first year agriculture student and this is a requirement of her college class.

Red do you have your plants in an area where you can build a chicken wire fence to keep the animals out?

We have problems with deer, & wild turkey so this years the garden has a fence around it.

RE: It's snowing
I had almost all melted yesterday, it was a tricky drive through the path I take to MI. Lots of fallen trees in the way, but the funniest thing was they had a marathon up in star lk, wi and it was cold and snow covered and they were runnubg in shorts and tights.....lol

It was only 22 here when I woke up and only going to get 50 today. The snow will be gone today so now that it is out of the way let our summer begin.. As far as gardening up here in the northwoods you dont dare start to eary.. Memorial day is usually when the gardens are planted here...
