freebird Wrote:My computer "expert" and he is good said this spyware infection is only 2 weeks and no one really has a answer for it. I really trust this "guru". He said he has fixed 10 computers in the last 4 days and we live in a small town.

A system restore would not touch this spyware infection "soft" with the green emblem. The computer had to be totally decommissioned" and then he restored our data.

usually computer gurus dont work the small towns they usually work for microsoft or apple or something a litle beter paying..only saying if there smart they wouldBig Grin

I am "pretty good" with software. What you say above could not be done with this infection.

I worked in the EE Dept. for years at a Oil Refinery. I worked with software and "issues" quite frequently. This is the 1st time I have ever had to take a personal computer to a another person.

It was "over my head". My computer was locked down bigtime. Anyway...

Well... some individuals like small town life. As most know... Jobs are hard to find and unemployment is really high.
How would you have a clue what this guy makes compared to Apple, Microsoft or even a pookey cleaners?
I live a small town life and made a great salary until my Injury.

RE: Spyware infection
Someones computer nightmare is another ones "yawn" or a walk in the park. I for one have had it go both ways, If I spend more then 1 day trying to get rid of a bad virus I simply do a complete restore by cd... But I have had friends that have baught a new computer (which many dont come with these backup cd's) You have to make a set of back up cd's/dvd's and you have to do it right away.. And if you dont then your screwed and end up having to buy a set from the company which made your computer...

I just purchased a new laptop for my wife (old one had mother board issues (dam spilled soda). As soon as I got the computer started and windows loaded I was prompted to make the backup cd's.. I used dvd's because other wise I would have needed 20 + cds to make them......God I love this computer.....lol

Before my injury I used do work on computer upgrades and repair.....(hobby). I'm out of date when it comes to these new ones but really theres nothing to a computer when you tear them down... But the number one reason people have problems is you need a good virus protection. And update it, set it on automatic udate and install. I also use Adware by Lavasoft it seems to block bad activity before your virus protection see's it....

Are you protected from a Spyware infection?
My solution in the future will be to purchase a MAC.
