Physical Therapist... Saying going back to work is possible in NC after back injury..
Hi, Okay I wrote on the board almost 2 months ago about my husband's case( he fell at work). We have a WC lawyer , WC denied my husband's case, so we are fighting it. Hubby has been seeing a spine specialist and a MRI revealed he has 3 disks that have a tear in it. He is still in pain and has difficulty moving around. He has a heavy duty job that requires a lot of movement ect.. The doctor ordered 6 wks of Physical therapy , 3 times a week. Today was our first day and I was kind of shocked because it felt that this therapist was on WC side. He pretty much said at the end of the therapy he should be ready to go back to work. That his job as a Physical therapist was to make him feel as good as before and be ready for work. Should I be worried? Any advice would be great. I can see my husband getting some relief, but I can't see him being able to return to a job where he has to , at times, lift 150 lbs and do a lot of bending and leaning. Tia for the help.

RE: Physical Therapist... Saying going back to work is possible in NC after back injury..
The therapist has to go by the treatment recommendations by the doctor. They write daily how the pt feels, pain and progress. If there is little progress, more pain that's what they write, they can't write down their feelings whatsoever. The therapist might feel that ideally most patients recover enough to return to work at the end of therapy but that's not every patient. I would remind the physical therapist that each case is different and unique and not to jump to conclusions that may or may not happen. I do understand your concern about your husband being able to life 150lbs again, that's alot for anyone to lift at one time. His doctor will have the final say, it's possible that that he'll have restrictions limiting how much he can lift at the end of physical therapy.
