we've never used the rating system much and this new format makes them too prominent for my taste.
I find it distracting and doesn't add much to the board.

I understand. Change is difficult, but I am hopeful you will come to embrace the stars like you have come to love the emoticons......

Actually, if I recall (it has been so long since I've seen the old board), we always displayed the ratings within the forum. I think it is that they are much more accessible in this version of the software. All kidding aside, your objection is duly noted.
