Dentist following ACDF with Instrumentaion

Yesterday I had a dentist appointment for a cleaning. The girl asked me what was wrong seeing as I was in pain. I told her I had my operation on March 9th for my cervical spine. She asked me if they put any metal in me which I said yes. The hygienist wouldn't clean my teeth unless I took antibiotics before I came in. Who knew?? So when I see my pain management doctor next week I will either need a prescription for an antibiotic or a doctors release stating I don't need it. I was also told this is up to 6 months following an operation in which metal is inserted.
I remember following my first surgery that this never came up and I did tell them what I had done. Go figure
