Surgery is scheduled

Hubby will be having his surgery on Friday morning. Evidentally the surgeon put him on the surgical list last week and then went on vacation and never told his girls. Right now we are going crazy trying to get all testing done in a couple of days. They sprung a stress test on him yesterday, which he's having done this morning and then has to go directly to the hospital to have pre-admission testing done IF he's done by 3:00, if not it will be some time tomorrow, and then an appt. with our PCP for medical clearance tomorrow night. Hubby is a nervous wreck and wishes he could have done some of this last week and known of the date a little sooner. He worried and waited all last week and then had it all happen at once. He's really worried. He's had 3 knee surgeries, 2 sinus, carpal tunnel on each hand, lumbar surgery and was never worried. Losing his whole lung really has him anxious. The group of Dr.s involved are Fox Chase Dr.s and have told him they wouldn't be doing the surgery if he wasn't strong enough. Basically his left lung is carrying him now and is very strong. From what we've been told and what I've read the normal risks of infection, bleeding, etc. come with this one also but there are no other dangerous risks. He will be in ICU for at least 5-7 days, then maybe 3 in a regular room. When he gets home he doesn't have to stay in bed but has to rest and not really do anything for another 6-8 weeks. DOn't know if he'll need anymore Chemo or radiation after the surgery but one dose of radiation was mentioned. I talked to one of the girls in the surgeon's office today and asked that she please let me know if there is anything else he needs to have done because he's really afraid now. She said all the rushing is going on because he is so young and they want to get him in there while he's so strong and the cancer has shrunk to next to nothing. They will be checking on his lymph nodes also in the area, although all tests have shown that it hasn't spread anywhere.

I have a couple of cell phone numbers so I will let someone know and try to post here also. Prayers in droves are needed. For some reason we are both uneasy with this surgery. I am hoping it's solely the nature of it making us both uptight.

Love,
CAP

In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years.
