A question on scar tissue & ears
My teenage daughter saw the primary doctor yesterday.
The doctor says her ear drum is in danger of bursting it has so much scar tissue in it. My daughter has had 7 ear surgerys in her life, (tubes) The doctor wrote another script for the same meds she has been on for the past month. And I am scheduling an appointment with an ENT for her. Does anyone have any suggestions that may help? |

RE: A question on scar tissue & ears
Bummer, Approx. 1 1/2 Years ago, My Hearing was getting so Bad I was almost Reading Lips as My Only way to Communicate. I was sent for a CT Scan, and then Referred to UPMC Eye and Ear in Pittsburgh for a Consult. From over the Years getting Ear Infections and not Seeing the Dr.had Caused My Outer Ear Canals to Fill with Scar Tissue, just as My Lower Back is. We spent Probably 2 Mos. using Different Size Wicks and Medication (Ciprodex) We were Fortunate enough to get My Left Ear Outer Canal Opened to 70%, but My Right Ear wouldn't Open. The Surgery Consisted of Removing My Ear from My Scalp and Moving it away, Cutting Out the Scar Tissue, and taking Skin from My Scalp and Grafting a New Outer Ear Canal. The After Surgery Pain wasn't too Bad due to the Meds. I take for My Back, actually We didn't Add any Extra Pain Medicine at all. If Your Daughter needs this Surgery, MAKE SURE She stays a Day or Two at the Hospital, Medicare wouldn't let Me, and Thank God My Dr. gave Ellen Her Cell Phone Number, because I Started Bleeding Badly, and the Dr. had to Talk Ellen through what to do to Stop it.I Lost some High Pitch Hearing, but My Last Test showed My Hearing is Equivalent of a 25 Year Old!! (Unless I Use My Selective Hearing when Ellen is Mad and Screaming at Me!!!
) I Hope this has Helped, and if I can Help Anymore Please let Me know!

RE: A question on scar tissue & ears
Thank you Still In Limbo
My daughter is 18 but still on my health insurance as she is a full time college student. I called the ENT department today and explained to the nurse what is going on with my daughter. I can not belevieve it but but they scheduled an appointment for this Friday for my daughter to see the surgeon. This is a doctor that takes 3/4 months to get into. This doctor is head surgeon for a large medical complex. Still In Limbo your post gives me hope that the doctor's may be able to do something to help my daughter. |

RE: A question on scar tissue & ears
My oldest suffered from horrible ear infections for the 9 years of his life. Putting someone back on the same antibiotic that didn't work makes no sense. The only thing that stopped my son's infection was"
1) Clearing up the infection 2) Putting him on a low dose antibiotic maintenance dose for 6 months. 3) Removal of scar tissue in both ears. I sent you a PM |

RE: A question on scar tissue & ears
I hope everything for your daughter goes well and she gets better soon. My sister-in-law had all the scar tissue in her ears from years of ear infections. She is now relying on hearing aids, and lip reading.
6/97--Discectomy L5-S1. 3/09--Discectomy L5-S1 (failed). 6/09--spinal fusion L5-S1. This year who knows? |

Kit that is a road I do not want my daughter to take.
Due to a medication "mess-up" when I was a teen I now wear bilateral hearing aids that gives me some hearing, although I do depend on lip reading. |

RE: A question on scar tissue & ears
Bummer, You May want to Google UPMC Presbyterian Eye and Ear Hospital, and Research Their Practices. That's where I was Referred for My Surgery, and even though My Dr. went into Private Practice in Boston, You still can Find Valuable Info. There. It's in Pittsburgh, Pa. and if not for Them, I would be Wearing Hearing Aides Myself!! It's a Teaching Hospital, and a Lot of Good Things have Come from There! I Hope this Helps a Bit, it May give You a Few Different Avenues to Pursue!!

RE: A question on scar tissue & ears
My daughter saw the ENT surgeon today and learned she has had a rupture of the ear drum.
The doctor removed some of the scabs from the ears, & changed her meds. She will return to the doctor in one month and may have surgery at that time. |
