Preferred doctors
My fiance had a knee injury a month ago. He has seen a doctor that we chose for the last 3 weeks...had the MRI and found out he has a torn meniscus. He was all ready to be scheduled for surgury but had to wait for the WC people to get back to the doctors office. (they had already been involved in the process) This week WC called to say they wanted him to go to another surgeon. He can't even get in there for 2 weeks for an appointment and then who know how long after that for surgery. He could of had this done next week if they would have let us stick with the doctor he was already seeing. Can WC dictate who a patient sees? In the first phone call the insurance co said that they had no preferred psysicians...then when he called back to say he wanted to stick with the doctor he has been seeing they said they would not pay for that. Meanwhile he is in pain , off work, and driving me crazy! Should we be able to stick with the original doctor?

RE: Preferred doctors
Welcome to the Boards Chrissy! The normal procedure for a w/c claim is to file a injury report with the Employer as soon as possible after the injury, and at the beginning they have the right to make you to use a Dr. from the Provider Network List they should have. In some States, like here in Pa. if you are not satisfied with your care after 90 days, you can choose a Dr. of your choice. So the answer is Yes they can make you go to a Dr. of their choice at the beginning of a claim. They should of made him aware of these facts when he filed his injury report. I hope this answers your question, and have a Great Day!!
Failed Back Surgery, Chronic Pain, Totally Disabled. Knowledge is Power, Especially in the World of w/c. Learn as Much as You can about Your States w/c Laws, and don't Fight Battles alone, They Use Attorney's, and so Should You!! |

We are in Indiana.

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: Preferred doctors
Check with your health insurance. generally if work comp rejects care then they'll pick it up.
That way he can stay will his first doctor choice and be out of the work comp system altogether. |

1171 Wrote:Check with your health insurance. generally if work comp rejects care then they'll pick it up. Oh my what a grand thought. He can do that and also loose all other benefits for WC, such as wage repalcement, mileage reimbursment, lump sum payment for perm partial disabiltiy. In your opinion 1171 would that be in "His Best Interests"? The employers and IC's perhaps but certainly not the IW's. Why would you suggest such a thing? are you an Adjuster for a WC IC or something of that nature? Chrissy if your finace is at all dependent upon these other benefits DO NOT even ask your regular insurance compnay to get involved with paying for his injury. Never mind, not worth it.

RE: Preferred doctors
new driver: are you a shill for some rip off comp atty?
you got like 3 posts and trying to pick a fight. don't go there. don't put words in my mouth. I'm perfectly able to answer any questions the poster has on my own. If you can't add anything to the issue but bad attitude stay off the thread. you don't have to like every answer or agree with them but personal attacks are out of bounds back off. flame wars benefit no one. don't try to take down this board by starting one. |
