RE: flu help
jayne...soooo sorry to hear of your aches and pains in your family. At least you are all doing it together as they say. jayne it sounds like you are doing what needs to be done. The main thing is to drink plenty of fluids. Fluids need to have electrolyes in it, so if you have 7-up that is a good alternative to pedialyte that you buy on the markets now. Also, to bring that temperature down, use tylenol and then put a couple cubes of ice in a zip lock baggie adn then wrap it with a washcloth or towel and put it under your childs arm pits. This will bring it right down. That was a method in a nursing home and it works everytime. I use it on my kids here at the house. Food is not an important ingrediant for 24-48 hours but the fluids with electrolytes are. Often the kids will dehydrate which will bring their temps up and not down.... so the fluids are a must with electrolytes... best of luck with this...love Red

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

Jayne

All I can tell you is hang on for the ride. I did the vicks on the feet but that was after 5 days. plenty of fluids, soft foods that can be tolerated, oatmeal was my favorite thing to keep down. Vaporizers work to help keep sinuses open - and they do have the ones that don't use water now - so it's up to you on which type you want to use.

alcohol rubs will help bring the fever down - but sometimes wrapping the little ones up in blankets and letting them sweat it out is just as good my mom always said - I would only use the rub if the temp get to high - or a tempid bath.

Like red said - keeping the temp low and plenty of fluids in the body is the most important things - and food as tolerated. And soft foods are best with the flu as they are easily kept down it seems.

Also word of caution - from what my doctor has seen here - a lot of flu cases have gone from the flu to bronchitis or pneumonia on this side of the state because of this weird weather. So once they are over the flu and they seem to get better and then start getting worse again - get them to the doctor for the magic shot and medication if it has gone to the other.

PS - I am battling the bronchitis now - so although I got over the flu still sick ..... it's been fun for sure in this house ......... driller keeps bringing this crap home and he's the one that had the flu shot and ended up with the flu.
